    Interview: Peter Tram Lead Developer Aerobridge Studios


    When did you start developing for flight simulators?

    I started developing for X-Plane around 2012. Prior to that, I tinkered with aircraft textures by retouching them in Microsoft Paint. I also dabbled a bit in aircraft design, adding flap canoes, most notably to the A330. I used to frequently convert FSX/FS2004 sceneries for personal use, with the mindset that sceneries in MSFS were superior to that of X-Plane's. However, this fact has drastically changed over the last few years, with many of X-Plane's sceneries, both freeware and payware, matching and even exceeding the detail levels offered by FSX/FS2004. I don't remember when I actually started to develop sceneries, or even the first object I modelled and imported to X-Plane but prior to ABSim's existence, I was part of a team called ALSG - consisting of me, myself and I - where the first LJPZ version was released under its name.


    Peter, what do you consider your best or most popular work?

    To date, I would have to say that the team's Portoroz LJPZ scenery (released last year) has been our best work but the most popular work is Meigs Field KCGX, for which a new update will be available soon. As far as my most extensive work goes, that prize would have to go to Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok Airport, VHHH, and Jackson Hole Airport will, I think, be our most anticipated release!

    What do you find to be the most challenging aspect of a project?

    Motivation, reference materials, and..... oh yes, more motivation! Having the motivation to develop is possibly, the most important and challenging aspect of add-on development to me. Without it none of my sceneries would ever be completed, or if they were, the quality would be below my normal standards.

    What have been your favorite projects?

    I don't have a favorite because every project I've started on has, in one way or another, been a favorite project.


    What software packages and tools do you use to develop?

    For modelling, I use Inivis AC3D, and for the creation of textures, I use Photoshop.

    If you have any, who would you consider to be your mentors or inspiration in the development world?

    My mentors and inspiration are mainly the developers at TruScenery, as these guys really know their stuff! Inspiration also comes from the MSFS side of scenery development, with some of the sceneries being produced there being of exceptional quality. FlyTampa and FlightBeam's sceneries are prime examples of this, their releases are known to be consistent in detail and quality.

    Do you develop payware/freeware or both?

    The team has always focused on freeware releases, but this will soon change as we move over to payware only releases. KCGX will be our final freeware release but I'm hoping that I will still find the time to squeeze in smaller freeware side projects.
