• FlightGear v2.10 Is Released

The FlightGear development team is happy to announce the v2.10 release of FlightGear, the free, open-source flight simulator. This new version contains many exciting new features, enhancements and bugfixes. Highlights in this release include improved usability, better terrain rendering and a fully scriptable 2D rendering system.

A list of major changes can be found at: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Changelog_2.10.

Oscar B., one of our developers made a movie to highlight some of the new features in v2.10:

Founded in 1997, FlightGear is developed by a worldwide group of volunteers, brought together by a shared ambition to create the most realistic flight simulator possible that is free to use, modify and distribute. FlightGear is used all over the world by desktop flight simulator enthusiasts, for research in universities and for interactive exhibits in museums.

FlightGear features more than 400 aircraft, a worldwide scenery database, a multi-player environment, detailed sky modelling, a flexible and open aircraft modelling system, varied networking options, multiple display support, a powerful scripting language and an open architecture. Best of all, being open-source, the simulator is owned by the community and everyone is encouraged to contribute.

Download FlightGear v2.10 for free from FlightGear.org.

I am sure there is a flight simulator there somewhere but I couldn't find. All I found was some zip/unzip software. It appears to be a scam to have you upload a zip file program.

      FlightGear a scam??

Come on, they have been around for years and years, fighting and struggling in a very competitive area with limited means, but a lot of courage. If I was one of the devs, I'd be insulted!

Not a scam...go to the top menu on their homepage and click on "Download Flightgear".
I gave up when I found the download speed to be ~70KB/sec...didn't feel like waiting 3 hours.

What I believe vflight2 is talking about is the fact that when you click the download link, you are really downloading a 7zip installer or something like that, via a package that will be presenting you with special offers. I couldn't find a link to download the actual package either although I'll concede that it's possible you'll eventually end up with it after wading through a series of offers to download a lot of other stuff.

As I said, DO NOT click on the big green advertisement (on the left of the screen) that says DOWNLOAD...that is for 7Zip.
At the top of that same page is a menu banner, one of the selections (near screen center) is "Download Flightgear". (I used the pull-down-menu Download Central.)

Guys, you need to pay a little attention! I'll admit their web site layout is not optimal. But that 7zip download is under a label that says "Ads by Google"; that whole left column appears to be advertising. Most web sites have ads, so this is hardly unusual and you should be able to navigation around it.

I had not planned on downloading it, but just as a test I started a download and am currently getting over 400 KB/sec which is pretty reasonable. Your speed will obviously vary.

Tried the download again today and got ~700KB/sec, more reasonable! Perhaps their servers were a bit overwhelmed yesterday...
