Iceland is an island country where the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans meet. It is north/northwest of the British Isles, west of Norway, and east of Greenland. Its geology is still being formed by active volcanos associated with the undersea mid-Atlantic Ridge. Its economy has traditionally relied on fishing and mining, and it is diversifying its economy with software production, biotechnology, financial services, and tourism.

Its climate is called "subpolar oceanic" because the North Atlantic Current provides warmth not experienced at such high latitudes around the world. Winters are relatively mild with average lows in the 20s Fahrenheit (1s Celsius). Its coasts remain free of ice throughout its winters. Summers are cool with average high temperatures in the mid 50s Fahrenheit (10s Celsius). Population is 320,000, with most people living in the southern part of the island.

Iceland's highest mountain, "Snaefellsjokull," appeared in the Jules Verne novel, The Journey to the Center of the Earth. Dettifoss is the biggest and most powerful waterfall in Europe. Vatnajokull Glacier near Hornafjordur is larger than all other glaciers in Europe combined. Iceland boasts the oldest functioning parliament, the Althingi, which was formed in 930 A.D.

The country has about 103 registered airports, mostly unpaved strips in rural areas. Major airports are Egilsstadir, Hornafjordur, KeflavÃ*k, and Reykjavik. The island's largest airfield by dimensions is Geitamelur, which is a four-runway field exclusively for gliding (not depicted in FSX). Its busiest airport is Keflavik, which is its primary international airport. Thousands of intercontinental flights between Europe and North America travel through Icelandic airspace, which can be seen on Flight Aware.

How nice it would have been to have this review written by an Icelandic enthusiast of the flightsim community instead of someone who obviously has never been to Iceland. The remark about buildings and depictions of Reykjavik airport not being accurately depicted is just wrong. By the look of the screenshots of Reykjavik airport the buildings look quite pleasing and accurate to me and give a good resemblance of being there. The screenshots of Akureyri, Isafjordur and Egilstadir look quite accurate as well.

From the screenshots, one can complain that details of Reykjavik city could have been more accurately depicted in the scenery, e.g. the review comment about the multi-story buildings which do indeed exist in Reykjavik, but then again where is the line of when to stop accurately replicating the real world scenery in the simulation world. For me airports should be accurate as possible/feasible, then approach paths if possible, the rest as budget allows. Hats off to Aerosoft for the work they have done.

PS: The seperate Keflavik X scenery appears to be accurately depicted.

Erlinger I think he was saying the default FSX doesn't look at good as the Aerosoft. Who cares if hes never been there. How many flight simmers have actually been to locale they fly to in the games? He compared the terrain to satellite photos and thats good enough for me. Great review!

Erlingur, I read the review properly, and found it to be very positive towards Aerosoft's version. I do have the scenery, and I have visited Iceland and have found Aerosoft's version to be more than reasonably accurate, which is what I think Bill actually said.

Gentlemen. I didn´t say that the review was not positive towards Aerosoft, that is clearly stated in the review´s conclusion. But if a reviewer intends to include some country facts then get those facts straight, otherwise leave them out. Unfortunately there are quite a few factual errors in this review. That I don´t like in a review.

The main goal of an add-on scenery, especially any commercial product, should to be more accurate or realistic then the default scenery. If it´s not then somebody did not do the homework right. That is for sure not the case with Aerosoft´s product, it appears quite ambitious. And Reykjavik airport looks quite realistic, buildings and all.

Lastly I would like to say that I fully respect Bill for taking the time to review the product. All I am saying it would have been nice to have had someone knowing the area better to write the review. I guess I just have to get myself a copy of FSX and Iceland X to experience it myself.

      Happy days!

Hmmmmmm......getting spoiled with one stunning scenery after another from ORBX, this attempt seems completely pathetic and ridiculous in comparison! Sorry to say...
