• Announcing The Dambusters App For iOS

We thought you might be interested in checking out 'The Dambusters' App. There's a trailer and more info at www.TheDambusters.co.uk.

It's currently No.1 Sim in UK Paid Apps for the iPad.

The game is a 3D simulation of Operation Chastise re-creating the famous WW2 mission; a remarkable historical event with all the hallmarks of a Hollywood blockbuster, an eccentric inventor, a daring raid, an elite Squadron and of course a secret weapon, Barnes Wallis' amazing bouncing bomb.

The App is the first to be licenced by the UK Ministry of Defence & Royal Air Force and though we have worked very closely with them, the game has been self-financed throughout. The App also incorporates the original music - The Dambusters March by Eric Coates which we're proud to say was recorded for Hyperspace by The Central Band of The RAF.

The handpicked crew on the 1943 raid came from many of countries (CA, AU, NZ, USA) and we are aware that a considerable number of US citizens volunteered for service in the British RAF, particularly during WW2.

Bruce Steele the creator has worked in the CGI visual effects industry in London and New York for many years and has used these skills and his experience as a private pilot to create a physically accurate simulation with realistic physics.

The current OC 617 Sqn Wg Cdr Keith Taylor (based at RAF Lossiemouth and presently just returned from active duty in Afghanistan) has played the game and given us a quote, see our News page.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) is following us on Twitter @DambustersApp, and some of their Spitfire pilots are enjoying playing the game. We have just returned from a personal tour of their hangar and got to see up close the Lancaster that dropped the poppies over the recently unveiled Memorial to Bomber Command.

You can view some of the photos from our visit on Flickr, including BBMF Sqn Ldr Duncan Mason flying the App.

You may have seen the classic British B&W movie 'The Dambusters' starring Richard Todd and Michael Redgrave and a remake has been in pre-production with Peter Jackson's team (Lord of the Rings) for some time with a script by Stephen Fry.

Apparently, George Lucas was also inspired to pay homage to The Dambusters in the Death Star sequence of Star Wars.

If you like what you see please help us spread the word.
