LTCSZ Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 OK...Fate has forced me to begin purchasing a new computer...I plan on top of the line specs, (well, as top of the line as I can afford) and have a question...I am a long time FS2004 user...Assuming my new system performs as it should, would I be better off finding a new (legal!) copy of FSX, FSX Steam, or going with P3d? I am aware that both programs require some tweaking and such, but which would prove to be more satisfactory in the long run? I really appreciate your advice! Steve in Kansas
vgbaron Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Hi Steve - Welcome to the P3D forum - FSX - no further development FSX:SE - being developed - has promise P3D - being developed and establishing a solid footing. For me - P3D hands down - they have made MAJOR modifications to the old FSX(ESP) code and seem to be very responsive to correcting any real issues. I didn't bother with SE but, for me, in comparing FsX and P3D - it's a no brainer - P3D all the way. Out of the box, P3D runs better and smoother than FSX for most people. P3d is best run with NO tweaks unless your system has a specific issue. Once you get your system up and running, get P3D - you have a 60 day return policy - that should give you plenty of time to evaluate. LTCSZ Posted October 31, 2015 Author Posted October 31, 2015 Vic: Thanks for the reply and info...I think I have decided on P3d and will order it when my new system arrives...At least the developers are interested in improving the program and it seems like it will be around for a while...I was not aware of the 60 day return policy....That makes it a no-brainer (which fits me fine!)...I note that you have P3d on an SSD...Do you notice a distinct improvement? I still have time to add an SSD to my system...Thanks again... Steve
mallcott Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 SSD for the OS and the sim benefits everything.
vgbaron Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 If I had only one SSD, I'd use it for the OS, as Mark said - putting P3D on an SSD becomes a plus.
