Timberleaf
Is there a way to get the night lighting around airports to stay on, or come on, during the day? mrzippy
It's possible that some of the payware airports have that feature or if you have the editing skills, you may be able to edit the airport lights. Do a Google search for "FSX airport night lighting during the day". Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
Timberleaf
I did a search, and found nothing relevant. I see there are questions for the night textures showing up in the daytime as a problem with their timezone file. That isn't what I am asking, either. Ultimately, if I am flying into an airport with a CAT III, the airport lights will be on, and likely so will town lights. If there is a way to edit this somewhere, I don't know it, and can't find it anywhere... so far. If FSX already does this, I have not seen it, yet. JSkorna
Reduce the visibility low enough and the lights will come on. Nothing more is needed. http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png
Clutch Cargo
You might try setting you date/time to night, then use the time preview and slide it to day. I have noticed when doing this with some airports the airport lights will remain on during the day. Opps... my bad thought I was on the P3D forum. This will not work with FSX. Timberleaf
Reduce the visibility low enough and the lights will come on. Nothing more is needed. I have indeed tried lowering the visibility, 1/16th of a mile in heavy rain. The only time the lights come on is during dusk, night and dawn. Daytime, reduced visibility 1/16th mile, heavy rain, no lights Dusk, reduced visibility 1/16th mile, heavy rain, obvious lights Timberleaf Win 10 | Area 51 R5 | i7 9800x 4.5 GHz | RTX 2080 8GB | 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4 | HP Envy 34c "One woman's chop is another man's turbulence"
mrzippy
I finally took an interest in the day lighting at the airport. I tried a flight from KFAT to KSAN in moderate rain and visibility of 1/16 mile. The runway and threshold markers were on at KFAT and the running rabbit and other runway lights were on at KSFO but due to poor visibility, they were hard to see when landing. Flight time 09:15 to 10:00. It may depend on what airport and if you have upgraded the scenery for it or not. KFAT KSFO Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer! Timberleaf
Yes, it totally does depend on the airport, especially if it is addon scenery. I never noticed until now. However, I am learning. For example: FSDT: KLAS, KLAX, KDFW, work during specific IFR conditions. FSDT: KJFK v2, does NOT Imagine Simulations: KATL does NOT FlightBeam: KSFO does work It is interesting how some do, and some don't, even from the same developers. As far as I am concerned, I have the answers I was looking for. Thanks for your help. StringBean
I have indeed tried lowering the visibility, 1/16th of a mile in heavy rain. The only time the lights come on is during dusk, night and dawn. Those are not default lights in your pics. Those are most likely effects which do not respond to the visibility. No way to change that. peace, the Bean WWOD---What Would Opa Do? Farewell, my freind (sp) Never argue with idiots. Timberleaf
Yeah, the point is, default airports light up. Since I mostly fly to addon airports, and hadn't come across this before now, or didn't notice any different, I wouldn't have known. The inclusion of the addon airports was to indicate WHY I didn't notice it before now. It never occurred to me to check default/stock airports. I also assumed (incorrectly) that developers would include such an intricate detail. For those addon airports that don't have the daytime, reduced visibility, lighting, I have directed my attention to the developers. Thanks all. dave1611
I bought A2A Shockwave Lights for better aircraft lights and on the install, It has an option to have night lights at airports visible during the day. And they do work during the day for me.
Rupert
As I mostly fly 1,000' AGL or less, I really have a lot of ORBX scenery. Any area or airport covered by ORBX that I've used has very controllable lights 24/7. Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
