Am I right to consider this PC a good one for running FSX?

Hi guys,

I posted a while back about my PC being AMD and not really the best in terms of running FSX, so I've been looking for gaming PCs out there that could possibly do the trick and get me smooth simulation experiences even with high settings.

I came across a gaming PC with the following specs, and I'm wondering if this would likely be a good candidate for me to upgrade to in terms of running FSX on high settings:

Intel Quad Core Core i7 4790K CPU (4.0 GHz)

16GB of 1600MHz RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2GB DDR5 GRAPHICS CARD

GIGABYTE H81M-S2H USB3 Motherboard

Corsair water cooling

I've done a little digging and it seems this rig would do the trick not only for FSX but a lot of other demanding games out there, but I wanted to get your opinions on the matter.

I've been a life-long AMD user purely because of pricing, but now I want to transfer to Intel due to the power that Intel CPUs can provide compared to AMD.

Would this PC do the trick and allow me a decent frame rate and smoothness in gameplay?

Thanks guys!

-Yorkie

I would drop the ram down to 8 gig and upgrade the video to a 970 or 980 if you can afford it. The extra 8 gig of ram just uses up more resources, not needed for fsx. The 970 graphics card is a more worthwhile upgrade, 980 is better , but I am having great luck with my 970, 60 series is okay, but with that processor, you could off load to the video card better.

Here's some food for thought:-

I bought an off-the-shelf laptop earlier this year from the local comp shop for 300 Brit pounds (460 US dollars) for general surfing, but then decided to install FSX on it out of curiosity just to see if it ran okay, and I was amazed to find it runs perfectly with highish display settings and good frame rates!

Here are the specs-

And here's a thread I did about it- https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?292809-Can-my-laptop-run-FSX

Thanks guys!

Would you say this could handle addons like PMDG aircraft and scenery etc.. too?

Cheers!

It is not going to be for lack of raw power that's for sure. Make sure you install ALL updates for your Windows before installing FSX-?? and do not goof it up.

Stay the course sailor!!!

Cheers,

I am planning to get my next simulator computer from these guys if you are interested in comparing.

Looks like what you have is better than many, possibly most users have. What are the specs of your new box? Based on their homepage, you have tons of options.

You're right. and for now I'm plenty happy with my current setup. But, just the same, I really enjoy planning ahead toward something new. I have just heard nothing but good things about this group and thought I would pass it along.

I think I am most looking forward to the possibility of a reliably overclocked and stable Haswell card. That would be great!
