Problem With Pop-Up Bar And Progressive Taxi

Hey guys,

So I am really new to this forum and excited to be apart of the community.

I use to play FS a lot in the day, but had to stop because I didn't have a computer anymore that would run FSX. Needless to say, I know my way around a 737 and a Leerjet. :)

But, I recently got a new laptop and FSX-SE and I have ran into a few issues that I need help with.

1: After a few rounds of playing, the popup bar that would show up when you hovered around a button, say for instance your heading selector, no longer shows up. I don't know why.

2: my progressive on taxi (yes, I need it from time to time) no longer shows up when I turn it on.

Can anyone help me out??

Thanks ahead of time.

The biggest trouble (I refuse to say "issue") laptops have is cooling. I found that placing mine on a baking sheet (flat metal thingy for like baking cookies and such) helps a lot, as does having a fan external to the computer blowing on it. Doesn't have to be hard, just steady airflow. I also turn the computer off occaisionally, say no less than once a week, and use canned air to blow out the cooling slots on the underside, and the integral fan's outflow grating really well. You can damage the fan if it's on when you do this, because you are forcing air "backwards" through the fan, and the rest of the things it cools. This keeps dust and other schmutz from building up and reducing the laptop's already poor cooling capability.

Another possibility is to buy a "cooling tray" for under the laptop, which has fans in it blowing up into the passive cooling gratings, usually powered off a USB port

BUT: The cleaning is still very important, even moreso than a desktop model.

Just some thoughts...

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

If you really know your way you would know that it is Learjet, not Leerjet. Just kidding.

Seriously though your symptoms indicate you are running in Full Screen Mode with DX10 preview on.

The only options for the Tooltips are run in Windowed Mode or turn off DX10 Preview.

If you want to use DX10 Preview Mode (which generally performs better for most, and looks better too, IMO) there is a fix for the Progressive taxi.

Go to Avsim and get Steve Parson's shaders fix- http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=185080

There is also a "fake" Full Screen Mode that does away with the Title Bar yet allows the use of Tooltips. I will have to look for it, or maybe someone else has it at their fingertips.

It's been a while, but I think 'progressive taxi' lines are also not visible when flying online.

That would make sense as they are a function of the default ATC which is typically not used when flying online.
