i7 Processor

Recommended Posts

I currently am using the i7-4770K processor and found now a newer one, the Intel Core i7-4790K Devils canyon Quad-Core 4.0GHz 1150 Mine I believe is only 3.6GHz. Question, my build runs FSX great but was wondering if the upgrade would give me much if any more then I already have. Maybe someone out there has tried both? Upon further investigation the two I am comparing here:

Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.00GHz

11,240

Intel Core i7-4770K @ 3.50GHz

10,188

Say at JFK getting 15 fps how many more frames might I get with i7 4790 and how does the GHz come into play? I also did not want to change mother boards though might be an option with another processor.

I don't think it would be worth the money myself. Particularly being as you

could likely OC that 4770k a bit. Single core still rules, and there isn't enough

difference per a single core, nor difference in performance to spend $300+.

Well, unless you got $$$ to burn.. ;)

The score you quote for that 4770k is about the same as the typical locked 4790,

which is what I'm running. I doubt I will be upgrading to the unlocked chip to gain a

few hundred mhz. I'll just wait until this one is obsolete and go to a newer platform.

It's hard to speculate on the fps.. But I don't see there being a huge difference with

only a 10% or so increase.

Thanks MBKHOU, I am just a beginner when it comes to the hardware but learning. Being my number one hobby it's like a hot rod car to me as much as flying. I like to play with adding scenery and AI a lot and that stuff can really hit the processor.
