sidnow
Hi Can anyone point me in the direction of info on how in FSX to create takeoff and landing "runways" on water scenery areas for floatplanes and how to then set up AI floatplane flights that use them ? Thanks Sid
Flattermann
Hi Sid, In principle it is the same proceder as a normal airportconstruction with ADE. I tried a ice runway and it works:-) Sorry I am on vacation and so I can't give you more advices. I am miles far from my FSX :-( happy landings! I have used ADE before to adjust AI parking spots at airports but couldnt see anything in the user manual index about floatplanes. I will look into it further. Sorry you're far away from your FSX - I guess thats a down-side of vacation. However I find FSX (boxed edition with Acceleration) runs quite satisfactorily on my very portable laptop (16GB Ram, 4 GB total graphics, 2.4 GHz i7). Flattermann
Hi Sid! I don't know if there is any mention of floatplanes in the Manual. But I tried to make such airports and after some mistakes it works. If you have still problems, be patient I am home again in the second week of september ;-) In the meantime there is also a interessting new thread in this forum called "AI seaplane models"and forget what I said about "icerunways" important is the width of 0;-) happy landings! ScatterbrainKid
Dunno if this is of any interest but there are seaplane bases scattered around in FSX like these two just northeast of New York (anchor icons). You have to zoom in a bit before the airport names come up.. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub4/FSX-mapa.gif And if you zoom in a little more, water "runways" appear.. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub4/FSX-mapb.gif~original But sadly there are no buoys or booms or anything else to indicate the runways are there. This shot (freeware Latecoere 28 sitting at the end of 30W) was with all my scenery graphics settings at maximum, but still not a sausage- http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g64/PoorOldSpike/sub4/FSX-mapc.gif~original Full thread here- https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?217032-Airstrip-in-water! Rupert
Yes, I've used these "runways" in FSX and it's pretty tough to tell exactly where you are. Without a GPS you'd probably miss them altogether. However I've also seen places where float planes come and go on a regular basis. I don't remember any visual indication you'd see while in a boat or a plane. Although a few are shown on the Corps of Engineers' river charts. Perhaps in some areas there are visual markings on the water. But personally, I've never seen them. Except for an occasional Hazard Marker on the bank, similar to one showing where underwater cables or pipelines run. And I boated, sometimes long distances, for years. Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
Flattermann
Hi Sid, I am back at my FSX. Have you constructed your seaplane airport? happy landings! But I have to mention, all the FSX stock-waterairports can't be used for AI-traffic! They only have runways, no parking, no taxi and so on. happy landings!
