Fly_Bob_Fly
Hi. As I have a number of payware aircraft I never use the default MS planes. To de-clutter my aircraft selection screen can I simply delete the planes in \FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes? Thanks.
cianpars
You could just delete them, but you will find that some other aircraft may use their default gauges or panels, plus AI aircraft, plus lessons, plus missions, plus a few other unexpected issues arise when FSX goes looking for them. I've deleted default planes on previous flightsims and regretted it. So if you want to delete them, I suggest you back them up somewhere in case you run into problems (and I suspect you probably will). StringBean
The safest way to remove them from the plane selection screen is to edit the aircraft.cfg so as to point them to a non-existent panel folder. FS will treat them as AI and they will not show up in the screen. Open the aircraft.cfg with Notepad. Press Crtl+H. Type panel= in the "Find what:" box. Type panel=off- in the ""Replace with:" box. Click on the "Replace all" button. Close the file, saving changes. Takes less than a minute per aircraft. Does not break any panel or sound aliases. Does not remove any AI, should you be using default AI. Easily reversible and non-destructive should you want to fly a default plane. peace, the Bean WWOD---What Would Opa Do? Fly_Bob_Fly
Thanks to you both. Really clear answers and explanation. I've learnt something new . . . . again! Perhaps a follow question if I may: Is there a way to put my favoured aircraft in their own group in the FSX aircraft selection section? I fly a very small selection of GA aircraft, but they're spread across a few manufacturers. It would be good to get them together? Bob
StringBean
Is there a way to put my favoured aircraft in their own group in the FSX aircraft selection section? Sure, just another aircraft.cfg edit. Find the [Fltsim.nn] section for the livery you want and change the... ui_manufacturer= ...line to whatever you want. Tip: if you lead your entry with an underscore it will be at the top of the dropdown list... ui_manufacturer=_my favorites peace, the Bean WWOD---What Would Opa Do? Fly_Bob_Fly
Another great answer. Thanks StringBean. I probably should have asked about 10 years ago - think of all the time I would have saved. ;)
