ColR1948
I recently installed FSX (Gold Edition), I have a solid state drive for Windows 7 and a 1TB drive for both FS2004 and FSX. I installed FS2004 and that is running fine. I also installed FSX, that too ran fine, then I installed 3 VFR scenery disks for the North, Midlands and South UK, somewhere I messed up because FSX couldn't find the VFR scenery, I'm new to this as I always had FS2004. Any way after playing around I think I made things worse so decided to start again with FSX and uninstall it, I thought I had but when I went to re-install I got the repair function and not the proper install, I tried the repair but after that it told me lots of scenery files were missing and it took me to a remote airfield I had never heard of and no option to go anywhere else, so again I deleted it. I have read the sticky of how to eradicate FSX from the system, I have read numerous threads and tried all of those things, I even tried some software recommended by someone on here that does a search to find every file associated with FSX, it found 2 more files that I couldn't find even looking at hidden folders. I deleted those thinking that was it, I tried again to install FSX but again all I got was the repair option, what really got me thinking is why develop software that puts files in hidden folder all over the the system that a simple uninstall won't work, you have to go through all this trouble? I read on one thread where one person was advising someone how to get rid of FSX and he too said it isn't simple, also all these different advice threads saying look here look there, try this try that, I'm now seriously thinking not to bother and just stick to FS2004, unless someone can tell me what else to try. il88pp
The uninstall works in two steps. The following thread explains: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?279451-How-to-clean-up-the-registry-after-uninstall I think you should -(backup you "microsoft flight simulator X" folder, to save your addon planes.) -Uninstall as much as possible using add/remove programs. -Then use kb928080 to clean the registry. -(then possibly clean folders in appdata... But I'm not sure of that.) -Then reinstall, to the new location. -Then delete the old "microsoft flight simulator X" folder. -and restore your old addon aircraft from the backup. That should do it. Good luck, il88pp [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
il88pp
Avoid using power uninstallers, programs like revo-uninstaller or reg cleaners. With fsx they often cause issues once it comes to reinstalling. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
il88pp
( ... ) kb928080 is ok to use (after as much as possible is uninstalled through add remove programs). Kb928080 is from microsoft, was made especially for fsx. It removes only the reg entry for fsx and the entry for acceleration or sp1 sp2 update. W2DR
Here's the "bible" as far as uninstall/reinstall instructions. Highly recommended.....You really, really don't want to have to stick with FS2004. If more problems come up keep coming back with questions. There are a lot of folks here who can help you work through them. http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a87/how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-fsx.aspx Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.0 Ghz, Asus Maxumus XII Hero MB, Noctua NH-U12A Cooler, Corsair Vengence Pro 32GB 3200Mhz, Geforce RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, and other good stuff. ColR1948
I'm not sure if some of you read my original post, I deleted what I thought was everything from FSX so if there is something there it is very little. I tried the KB928080 followed the instructions for Windows 7 and after going through the procedure I got this error message: Failed to delete token store ERROR--HRESULT 80004005
il88pp
Deleted is not the same as uninstalled. About the kb. Make sure you run the command prompt as administrator. And make sure you follow the microsoft instructions carefully. Type every character in the command prompt precisely as instructed. evm
I'm not sure if some of you read my original post, I deleted what I thought was everything from FSX so if there is something there it is very little. I tried the KB928080 followed the instructions for Windows 7 and after going through the procedure I got this error message: Failed to delete token store ERROR--HRESULT 80004005 The repair is caused by the registry entries and you would have to use regedit to eradicate all traces of fsx.exe in the reg to start over fresh. But normally the repair should work too. You got messages about missing sceneries - were these the default ones or addon scenery? Default would mean that your FSX installation is not complete but Addon missing would be quite normal. Be sure to remove the scenery.cfg in /Program Data/ before you reinstall-repair. As to why hidden folders and why does uninstall sometimes not work: Beginning with Windows 7 MS decided that we do not longer have to see certain folders, and hid them, and they upped the security measures against fiddling with the system itself (called UAC). Every program has a footprint in there somewhere, this is not FSX's fault. Btw if you install scenery and FSX can't see it, this is no big deal, and certainly no reason to reinstall the whole sim. It is just a matter of getting your scenery.cfg right, either using the FSX GUI or manually.
ColR1948
Hi, The missing scenery errors were the default ones. I installed the addon scenery to a separate folder not the folder FSX was in if that makes a difference I don't know. The reason I ended up trying to reinstall the sim was I tried moving the scenery and somehow must have either moved something or deleted something and it started a series of errors which got worse so I decided to start again. I tried a PC repair tool hoping that might find something, it did find some errors and fixed them but was not able to eradicate any remaining FSX related files, I again tried the install and still I get the repair or remove files, when I click on the remove files it just comes up saying it couldn't do it and to close the program down and try again. il88pp
You uninstalled acc. But you did not go back into add/remove progs to also uninstall fsx deluxe. At that point you could have done a repair, or you could have installed acceleration. (As the reg entry's were then still there, you won't get offered to reinstall at that point.) But you did not repair. And you did not uninstall deluxe. Instead, you started randomly deleting files. Because you did, now the repair does not work anymore. Uninstalling deluxe from add/remove programs does not work anymore either. And since the reg entry's are still there, you still get offered the repair option when you run the disk. As far as the system knows, FSX is still there. You will need to run the kb928080 (correctly!) to remove those reg entry's. As in: place the kb download on the desktop. Extract to C:\MicrosoftKB928080 (the default location it offers when extracting.) Then run it from an elevated command prompt, correctly. Worked for me everytime. ColR1948
Yes what you say is correct, also I have ran the KB now numerous times as administrator but it still come up with the same error as I posted above.

il88pp
Don't know about those files/folders. You could try this Microsoft Fixit to uninstall. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/en-us [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Hi, this sounds like UAC is giving you a hard time and/or you are not the administrator of your PC (this happens with windows 7). You should try disabling UAC completely for now, and check your user account if you have adminitrative rights. Then, if you are courageous enough, use RegEdit to remove any trace of FSX from your registry, then the Explorer to remove every folder related to FSX (Appdata/roaming/microsoft/FSX, program files/microsoft games/..., program data/microsoft/FSX). You need to turn on the viewing options for hidden and system folders for this. If Windows does not let you do that, your user account is too "weak", and you need a new one with administrator rights. ColR1948
Well you were right I wasn't the administrator so I did as you said and disabled the UAC, I ran the KB and this time it worked but... It didn't cure the install FSX disk problem so now it looks like I'm going in the registry.
il88pp
first try rebooting. reg changes (like done by the kb) need a reboot to take effect. then try the reinstall again. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ColR1948
Geez! I don't believe it. I went in the registry and did the 'FIND' function, it found countless entries in different parts for FSX, I removed them all and did a restart, inserted the disk and... It still came up with the repair, I've had enough.
