I have a set of CH yoke and pedals from a few years back. Wanting to get back into FSX. My wife is adamant about going with a an Apple computer. Will I be able to use my components? and will an Apple run FSX with any degree of success?

Thanks All

Nope. FSX is Windows compatible, and it won't work on an Apple computer, unless the OS isn't installed. To be honest Apple computers are a little bit to expensive,in my opinion, so there's no point in getting them.Apple Pcs will run XPlane, I don't recall, If whether Prepard3D will work with Aplle's OS, but for a flightsim PC, Windows 7 and 8 are the best.

You can always bootcamp Windows7 onto your Apple computer as an alternate Operating System.

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Hi Reed,

You'll have no problems whatsoever:D.

As long as you have the appropriate OS and drivers installed, it'll work a treat.

Since switching to Apple hardware in 2006, I've never looked back. Each one of the MSFS/X-Plane articles I've written in that time have all been on an iMac, either in its native OSX, or in Windows via Boot Camp;).

Apple Boot Camp will enable you to enjoy FSX to its fullest:

Have fun!

"enjoy FSX to its fullest" is quite the statement. Depends on how serious you are with FSXing. Throw in some heavy hitting addons - if the expensive Apple hardware can't keep up, you don't have much in terms of an upgrade path.

FSX will certainly run under Boot Camp, but will be limited somewhat compared to a purpose built gaming PC. Apple's iMacs use laptop GPUs, and sometimes CPUs, which aren't quite as powerful as the full desktop part, even though the names are very similar. With high resolutions of the 5K iMacs, some settings may need to be turned down a bit.

Chaps,

You'll find that most Apple hardware runs 10 year old code just fine;). In fact, I even go so far as to turn my CPU down so that I don't hear the fan on my custom iMac (2014 i7). This is whilst using Orbx scenery, A2A aircraft and OPUS weather.

P3D 2.5 is a slightly different matter, but again, even with high settings, I still get above 30FPS (on most occasions).

X-Plane 10 with its fantastic HDR lighting, dynamic shadows etc, is always above 30FPS.

Yes, for sure you could purchase a Windows machine for a lot less money, but then you'd be stuck using Windows which (for me) is not an option.

You see, I only play games 10% of the time;)

Happy flying!!

Noooooooo don't turn to the dark side of the force. Once you buy a Apple you will undergo this bizarre change that requires you to go to cafes and drink lattes and eat vegetarian croissants filled with organic low carbon footprint vegetables that were played Bach while growing in fair trade soil imported from Ethiopia, and that's just what happens to you in the first week. You really don't want to know what happens after that, lets just say it involves berates and tweed jackets.

AMD 9590 5Ghz, Asus 990X Sabertooth, Asus 285 Strix, 8Gb Ram x2 RipJaws, Corsair Hydro H100, Corsair CM750M, 2TB Short Stroked HDD, Samsung 120Gb SSD for OS, x3 ViewSonic VX2370 LED Frameless Monitors. x1 Semi Understanding Partner.

The dark side has always been cool;)

Cheers
