FS2004 No ATC Chatter; All Other Sounds Are OK

Hi, 31merida58!

at first - no offence - check, whether your avionics (radio stack) are properly switched on. Don't laugh - once I wondered about the silence in cockpit and checked every possible setting, but stupid enough I left the radio switch "off". Coincidentally I became aware of this.

Did you check the audio settings, too? You have to go go into settings, then into sound settings and mover slider to the right. Then go into ATC settings and check all three boxes in ATC.

If it does not work, you might have a corrupted atc.dll in the "modules"-folder of the sim. You can search your installation CDs for this file and replace the one you have in your siim by the default one (please backup your old file first!).

Do you know what you have changed a few weeks ago? Perhaps a programme you installed that time changed your settings or modified your sound files?

Btw: I highly recommend a closer look at the little programme "EditVoicepack" from Lars Moellebjerg. It greatly enhances the ATC.

Good luck!

Jens

The FS9 default flight you use sets up some base settings for the flight you create or load as a saved flight. The default is loaded in the background even while you are in the FS menus.

Check your power and also your audio annunciator selector and if you wish make an aircraft that has those the default flight. If you are an FSUIPC registered user take advantage of the "magic battery" function that keeps it from running down prior to your generator/charger being activated.

I use the King Air as my default flight parked with engines off but with all of the selectors set as needed for most flights. For audio I have COM1 selected on the annunciator panel as well as the marker beacons. Always use a default aircraft for the default flight.

On the FS9 internal sound mixer be sure ATC is cranked up. When all is working make it the default flight.

If My Traffic 6 was installed it might have put in its own af (afcad type) files and might be using a different ATC frequency. If you are manually tuning your radios, use AFCAD, ADE, or AFX to check the frequencies to be used as they might be different than that on a chart you may be using for reference.

On a different idea just for sound settings in your audio control panel for your sound card try setting it for stereo, not 5.1 or 7.1. Probably not a problem but I've found some users with their speakers plugged into the incorrect jack. This would not cause a crash however.

If you want to check your audio decoding system in a dos window or the run command type dxdiag.exe and run the audio tests just to rule out any system difficulties.
