New to FSX

Recommended Posts

Greetings All,

Just saying hello and that I am brand new to FSX (Gold). I just installed ORBX Global so I guess a follow on inquiry would be; Is there a global add on that upgrade the native aircraft in FSX, or must one install third party aircraft such as A2A or VRS?

Many thanks from a raw nugget.

Nothing available like a global update. You need to get aircraft from different third party developers individually. What type of aircraft do you wish to fly with?

Most of your new questions will be answered already in the Newcomers forum.

Forget global updates at this stage, learn the sim first and refine what your detailed requirements for upgrades will be going forward.

Scattergun questions will not get you a rewarding experience, only a bogged-down sim overloaded with useless addons and fps in single digits.

There are various addons that will add realism globally, although they are relatively subtle. It would be unrealistic, for example, to imagine anything could globally change the look of your virtual cockpits.

Useful addons I can think of off the top of my head are EZCA, which gives realistic dynamic effects to the virtual cockpit view, A2A's AccuFeel, which adds sounds and motion connected to turbulence and ground/water surfaces, Charles Owen's 'ice10' gauge for improve icing effects and Peter Lurkens's CumulusX! for adding thermals and mountain effects. Of course with addons such as these the distinction blurs between the aircraft model and the environment.

My dad flew B-17's out of Italy in WWII so I am most interested in scenarios and aircraft from that era. I am a retired airline pilot and now fly corporate aircraft full time so I have little interest in "modern" aviation.

BTW my father's B-17 was named Pineapple Pete. Tuskegee Airmen saved his crew one day. So, the P-51 is at the top of my list with P-38 and P-40 next.

Thanks

Maybe something here: https://www.a2asimulations.com/store/ . B-17, P-40, P-51, and more. I don't own any of the warbirds but have found the civilian aircraft to be top-notch.

If you're heavily into WW2 aircraft, I thoroughly recommend the IL-2 flight sim; there are several versions, so if you want to get into it you could post in the Mission 4 Today forum asking which is the latest version etc. It includes virtually every WW2 plane ever built.

Also they'd be very interested if you could also post about your dad, and maybe include a few pictures of him and his plane etc, (I'm a Moderator there under the name 'Poor Old Spike')
