RevReese
Hi all! I recently bought the FSX for pilots book from Wiley and downloaded all the extra files from their web site (as instructed by the book). The problem is, none of the flights appear in the simulator once placed in My Documents/Flight Simulator X Files (again as instructed). Also, upon opening the FSX Files.zip file from their website, five files from Chapter 10 appear outside the FSX Files folder, I am not sure if this is accidental or not, I just added them into the extracted folder and added them to the my documents/flight simulator x files folder. I couldn't find a relevant post anywhere about this issue and wasn't sure were to post about it, so i found this forum and thought i would take a chance!. I hope someone else has had this issue and knows what to do about it. Thank you for your time!
pvarn
"Also, upon opening the FSX Files.zip file from their website, five files from Chapter 10 appear outside the FSX Files folder" Are you saying when you look at the contents of the zip you see files outside the documents sub-folder? Some thoughts: 1) Make sure you have hide file extensions turned off in Explorer options. This is a MUST for all people doing game mods. 2) See if these same files (perfect match now that you can see the extensions) are also inside the documents folder. If so, then ignore them. 3) If the files in question are not *.flt, *.pln.*.wx files, then they are not likely to be helpful when placed on your HD in your user documents FSX location. They might be readmes or copies, etc. This should become obvious with some inspection. "... none of the flights appear in the simulator once placed in My Documents/Flight Simulator X Files (again as instructed)." Make sure the files you copied there have the *.flt file name. Only "flight" files will show up. I assume you are looking for them in the FSX UI "Free Flight--> Load Mission files do not go into the Documents folder. -Pv- 2 carrot salad, 10.41 liter bucket, electric doorbell, 17 inch fan, 12X14, 85 Dbm

I can confirm five of the chapter 10 files are outside the sub folder for some reason. I have hide file extensions off and the files are all *.FLT, *.FSSAVE, *.SPB, *.WX, *.PLN. Three of them are already inside the sub folder, so I have just added them in with the others, I assume this was accidental. I am looking for them as you say in the FSX UI Free Flight--> Load menu but they do not appear even after restarting FSX.
RevReese
What did Wiley say when you asked for their advice on the problem? Thank you for your reply! I will email them shortly and see what they say. I'm not sure they would help me as I just realised this book i bought from amazon. I will email them anyway. mrzippy
I downloaded those files yesterday just to take a look at them. There was no README in that download to give installation instructions. I would have guessed that the book would have a section on how to do that? Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
tvieno
What did you do for the other chapters when you downloaded those files? http://my.flightmemory.com/pic/tvieno.gifhttp://www.vatsimsigs.co.uk/Status/1136602.jpg

Yes on page 7 of the Intro, it says to extract the files and place them in My Documents/Flight Simulator X Files, though the instructions were for Win XP, it's exactly the same for Win 7. RevReese
What did you do for the other chapters when you downloaded those files? Thank you for your reply! They are all together in the download. I simply extracted the files and placed them in the correct folder.
mrzippy
Just curious if you still can't see the flights? I did the download again and installed all of the files, including opening the FSX files folder and dumping all of the files into Flight Simulator X folder in My Documents. the screenshot shows just the start of all of those flights. many more are in that load section. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
RevReese
I re-downloaded the files and placed them in the correct folder, but they still do not appear in FSX. I have restarted multiple times, but no joy. I received a reply from Wiley, they said the files outside the sub folder are updated versions of the files inside the folder and can be safely merged. Other than that, they said to check the folder i placed the files into. UPDATE: I just re-checked the location, some of my other flights did not appear under my documents either. It turns out because i am running FSX as admin, it was looking under the admin's my documents/flight simulator x files. Copying the files from my user account to admin and the flights all show up perfectly. My silly mistake, i didn't think about that! Thank you all for the help!
