Wing views in freeware aircraft

I recently downloaded a freeware aircraft and found that when looking at the wing views,parts of the plane and wings were invisible. I have seen this before and can usually correct this by changing some things in the camera definitions. The problem I have is that there are no camera definition's in this aircrafts cfg. Can you have camera views without the definition in the cfg and if you can't,where could they be.Hope someone can shed some light on this for me. Thanks,Ed

Camera views can be added to any aircraft.cfg which does not have one. The FSX SDK details how this can be done. Typically, when you can see through or inside of an aircraft model's 3D image (object) it's because the position or zoom of the camera is too close to the visual boundary of the object.

First off,thank you for the reply. It is tds737aa-fsx.zip. It is on pg 68 at simviation under fsx civil jets. As for the zoom, I tried moving that around but it did no good. The only visible part of the aircraft is the cockpit when in those views. Funny thing is that you can see the shadows of the wing and plane even though those parts are invisible. Thanks, Ed

Is this a FS9 or earlier conversion? Many of these have more primitive 3D models where only the cockpit area is visible.

The TDS aircraft show no wingviews from either the 1st class or economy class window views. I might try a download I saw for TDS 737-700 wing-view in the library.

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Add this to the AC cfg file and see if this helps.

I can't find tds737aa-fsx.zip on simviation. Only on Rikoooo.net

Was that where you founfd it?

 

 

If I remember correctly I had some issues with aircraft from there. Also, aircraft from there often come with an installer (.exe) I believe, something I try to avoid.

I don't think I will install to help fix this one this one, sorry.

It may have the same issue with the views though.

 

Notice it says FS2004.

 

I had a good search on the web, not just in the library, and couldn't find that 373 in that AA livery for FSX anywhere.

tds737aa-fsx.zip gives only two hits on gooogle.

(google hides some similar results. When you click 'show all results' many fs2004 results pop up. no fsx)

 

So I expect the file from Rikoooo is also the fs2004 version, just advertised wrong by mistake.

Hi Ed,

This has me baffled. I downloaded the aircraft to see what you were seeing. There are Cameradefinitions; it's just that there at the bottom of the .cfg.

I tried adding a camera from the default 737 that has the wings displayed as a starting point but wasn't able to see the wings when I checked. Something to do with the .mdl I suspect but haven't checked further.

I'm not sure if this is a fs 9 conversion aircraft. I will check that out. If you click views ,aircraft those views are shown as being available. As for the camera definitions, I copied and pasted the economy and first class views from my Southwest Florida One aircraft to the the cfg of the American aircraft I am having problems with. The views are there, it's the aircraft and wings that are missing. I have tried placing them in several locations within the cfg file. I found it strange that the views were there but there were no camera definitions in the cfg file when I first downloaded it. Thanks,Ed

Have a look in the model folder.

If it is a fs9 aircraft there will be only one model.

 

If it is FSX, or converted, there will be an outside model, and an interior model.

 

If there are two model files, and an model.cfg file, open the outside model with notepad.

 

You will see a whole lot of gooledegook.

but near the top you will either see:

MDL8MDLH

(then it is an fs9 model) (if there are both an interior and exterior model some conversion has been done)

 

or it will say:

MDLXMDLH

(then it is an fsx model

Jandjfrench, thank you for going through so much trouble for me. You say there were camera definitions at the bottom of the aircraft by I didn't see any. I recently downloaded the Illinois and Missouri One Southwest planes made by the same person and did see camera definitions at the bottom of the aircraft cfg. I was able to fix the missing wings by making some changes to the origin line and to the initialxyz and initialpbh line. Thought I could do the same with this aircraft but it has been a challenge to say the least. Thanks again,though. Ed

Hi Ed,

Usually I learn something when I try to help someone out so it's not a problem. I did check the .cfg in the .zip and here's the bottom:

For the additional views to display they have to be there.

This aircraft has the 2 .mdl files so I'm assuming it's native FSX. Viewing the .mdls with "Model Converter X" wasn't helpful to me but perhaps someone with more knowledge will be able to help. The external model was amazing. (Amazing seems overused a bit lately so maybe amazinger or amazingest would be more descriptive).

As groupings of similar thing have names (such as pack, bevy etc.) I suggest "cacophony" for the additional animated scenery objects included here. Anyone that checks this will see why.

Jandjfrench,the reason you can't see the wings is because you need to change the origin line to center,not virtual cockpit. Then in the initialxyz and initialpbh lines,those hombres need to be changed as well. I can give them to you,if you like.

EDK, I have the exact download from Simviation. There were 4 camera definitions in the Aircraft.cfg. Economy View left/right and 1st Class View left/right. I deleted the first 2 and added the left and right wing view from the default 737-800, then renumbered the views starting with 0-3. I now have left and right wing views available. Did you want to see just the wings or were you looking for engine views?
