stvn
Lately I've been on a heli kick. I'm in Jordan Moore's original Open Source Jayhawk Sikorsky HH-60H Rescue Hawk with Hill Viking paint. On loan for my personal use today  from the USS Enterprise. The airport is KAST, Astoria Regional, which Coast Guard Air Station Astoria also calls home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ my flight simming system: Windows 10 CyberPower PC i5 6600k 3.5 gHz, Gigabyte NVidia GTX 970 graphics, with FSX, FSXSE and P3D all installed side-by-side on a Crucial 525 SSD. Dual monitors, with a Saitek X52 joystick w/ rudder pedals for controls. It's all powered by a Thermaltake TR2 Gold 700W power supply sitting in a Thermaltake Chaser MK-1 case. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

HoggyDog
Very nice shots! I am in awe of anyone who voluntarily chooses to endure FSX's HORRIBAD simulation of helicopter flight dynamics. Although not rated in fling-wings, I've been flying for over 50 years, and have actually flown two helicopters (with instructors) in that time. Both were 1,000 times easier to handle and more predictable than the FSX abominations masquerading as flyable aircraft. Does this addon helo fly any better than the FSX defaults? i7-10700K @3.8-5.1GHz, 32GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM, GTR-2060 Super 8GB, 2x SSDs

stvn
thanks Larry, dog, j, dog, as far as the physics goes, (maybe I am part of a minority on this) I'm one that kind of likes the way the FSX default Agusta Westland EH-101 flies and handles (and I am using all my realism settings -something I still cannot do in FS9 with most helis there to this day). I'm not crazy for the FSX default 206 or the Robinson 22, but the AW EH 101, yes. I always use the EH-101 as the benchmark for comparison purposes with freeware 'copters. This one is a dream for me to fly. I love it. It has a great 2d panel. That is a bonus for me, because I always open up any 2d panel on any plane/heli I fly on my second monitor. Soon I'll probably get Aerosoft's 'hawk. Mr. Moore's copter here will def be my bench test for the AS version no doubt... I'm still learning my cold and dark start-up procedures on most of my payware helis. But imo that's the way to go on payware copters. Thank god for youtube...:D On the other hand that's why I like the AW 101 so much. Not so much for the 2d panel -basically there isn't one- but it's always ready to go whenever you load it up. Imo Jordan and co. seem to really do their homework when it comes to whirlybirds, and it shows when you fly them. The one I used today can be found at Hovercontrol.com. It can be downloaded here. PhantomTweak
If you're having trouble with the way FSX does helo flight dynamics, you may want to look into HTR, on Hovercontrol. Helicopter Total Realism, I beilieve it's up to v1.5, unless they've come up with a new one lately. It is a small add-on program for FS9 and FSX both, written by a Aeronautical Engineer, and assisted by several helicopter pilots, both real (even a few military) and Sim, including some real-life helicopter CFI's. It takes what the Sim tells the model to do, changes the physics to what it really should be to be as much like a real helo as it's possible for a sim to get, then sends the data back into the sim, utilizing FSUIPC, to actually make the model do it properly. I am not the greatest person to explain it, but that's basically it. They have an entire section of their forums dedicated to it, so there must be something to it. I use it when I fly choppers and I am really sold on it. There is a section of their DL area for HTR and the different .cfg files for various Helicopters. Is you favorite not among them? No problem. A little reading of the included instruction manuals, and you can write your own easily, from scratch. Or modify a bird's .cfg file for a different, but similar one. Just save it under a different name to ake a new one. All you need to edit the .cfg files is Notepad or equivalent. Nothing fancy. There are also a couple articles, by Jordan Moore, on how to make the game at least come as close as it can without using HTR to help, although I understand Mr. Moore uses HTR when he is flying his own stuff, by modifying the Aircfraft.cfg and .air files for the bird, either FSX or FS9. He is one smart son-uv-a-gun, not to mention a great aircraft designer in the Sim world, if you hadn't noticed. He knows where-of he speaketh, so to speak. Anyway, just a couple ideas to help make choppers both better and more realistic to fly ( AND more fun!). Just bear in mind the old saying about helicopters: Trying to hover one is like trying to spin a plate atop a broomstick, while standing on a beachball. Definately not easy, but once you really start to get decent at it, it's a real feeling of accomplishment. At least for me it is anyway, altho I am far from anywhere near "good". Good luck and fair skies to all! Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again! Sgt, USMC, 10 years proud service, Inactive reserve now :D
Hill Viking
Stvn, Great shots of my HH-60H Rescue Hawk. This was originally an open source Jayhawk package by Jordan Moore. I did some extensive changes to the model using FSDS. After many hours of work, fixing animation and trying to get the model as accurate as possible, i worked on getting the textures done. The textures we're completed with some help of Kirk Sunley. Mr. Sunley provided some photoshop files for the rivets and lines, after that the rest of the paint schemes are 100% custom work by me and are accurate to the real world aircraft which these models represent. I'm glad you enjoy my HH-60H package. I have several other packages, including the MH-60S Knighthawk, MH-60R Seahawk, and MH-60J/T Jayhawk. If you enjoy this package, please check out the others over at Hovercontrol.com. P.S. I'm currently in the process of updating my Coast Guard Jayhawk package and i've been working on the VH-60N White Hawk "Marine One."
