I'm in the beginning stages of upgrading my FSX system to MFS 2024 after a lot of years of use. Now that I'm retired I finally have the time to start the project if my money doesn't run out first. I'm going to list everything I have currently and any advice as to what I can keep and what won't work will be appreciated.  I realize a lot of what I have is obsolete for the new set-up. Luckily, my son works at NASA Glenn with a contractor doing IT work to help me out.

You're going to need a new PC for starters. See @chicagorandy's posts for the system he put together as a good example of a reasonably priced option (assuming you're in the US, prices elsewhere will be different). With a higherr budget you can certainly step up to something like an AMD AM5 based CPU, preferably one of the X3D models, and a GeForce RTX 4080 or better, and plenty of RAM. The sim does require Windows 10 at a minimum. The systems requirements are listed at the site below.

A major factor is going to be your internet connection. If you have a solid high speed connection, great, if you have a spotty or non always on connection, MSFS 2020 and 2024 are probably not for you. They rely heavily on access to Microsoft's servers.

Many, if not most, peripherals do work, though you would need to check with each vendor to know for sure. Some will require manual assignment for the buttons.

When it comes to add-ons, FSX aircraft and scenery are basically not compatible. People have ported over some, however most are missing functionality etc., and the scenery already included in the new sims is far better than the defaults in previous sims. Some third party programs have updates to work with the newer sims but, again, you will need to check with the developer.

I'm guessing that your monitor, sound system and controls hardware will transfer over OK. The PC doesn't meet even the Minimum requirement, so I'd recommend getting or building one to meet at the least the Recommend specs or better.
