Arrow taxi turn control lost

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a taxi control issue I am having. I landed at KSAN last night on a long haul from KATL and when I landed I could not taxi the aircraft off the runway. For whatever reason, it appears that my left/right arrow keys are no longer working. I have used other aircraft to test and they will no longer turn either. I checked settings to ensure that those keys are assigned and they are. I cannot figure out why the arrow keys seem to be disabled. This is all I have while I'm waiting for my new stick. Thanks in advance.

Since we (or maybe just me) have to assume you are using the keyboard keypad, make sure the NUMLOCK key is not activated. You might not have a light (some keyboards no longer have a light for the 'status' of the NumLock key) so you have to press it to toggle it and then try the keys.

Are your left/right arrows assigned to the rudder or ailerons?. No plane can turn on ailerons while taxiing.

If I were you I'd assign ailerons to the left/right arrows, and assign rudder to .

When you press the rudder keys, you should be able to confirm the rudder is moving alright in external view.

What aircraft is it? Some prop tailwheel jobs are hard to turn anyway unless you give a burst of power while rudder is applied.

If it's a jet, some won't turn if you're taxiing too fast, it's a real-life thing to damp down nosewheel sensitivity, so try slowing down before trying to turn.

Thanks all for the great advice. I checked auto rudder and I now have steering control on the ground. I accidentally disabled it in-flight at cruise which would explain why after landing I could not taxi off of the active. Thanks again!

 You were so bored that you went into your FSX/Settings and unchecked the box for "auto rudder" and then forgot that you did that??

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but strictly speaking, auto-rudder is not realistic because most planes don't have it do they?

I always thought it's just for FSX beginners, to help them fly without crashing, then later after they've become more experienced they disable it for more realism.

I never use auto-rudder myself.

Your are right, Kid. It doesn't make any difference if the 'auto rudder' is checked or not. When you bank (by use of aerlions) the ac will turn (anyway) WHEN IN THE AIR. Unchecking 'auto rudder' will allow you to do CRABING on approach (when flying) which will be impossible to do with 'auto rudder' 'ON').

On the ground, you need nose steering (does not involve the rudder) to be 'set' in the contact points. Tail draggers get turned by the rudder AND forward movement (ie: by adding power-as has been said) although the tail wheel ALSO has steering set in the contact points.

And any taildragger (like the DC3) can 'profit' by having DIFFERENTIAL BRAKING to use as simulation of giving POWER to one engine to make it turn while the other engine is left at 'idle' when making turns (ie: on taxi) and while on the ground. This 'simulation' of engine use is actually braking of one wheel, while letting to other wheel be 'free (ie: not braking). .Modelers don't always add 'differential braking' to taildraggers, but you can add it yourself.

And for 'rudder' whether in the air or on the ground the keypad keys for rudder are the '0' or 'INS' key for left turns, and the 'Enter' key for right turns. And to 'center' (or 'cancel') rudder deflection, you tap the '5' key. OK? OK!
