Hi @ll,

some shots taken yesterday evening. Private jet from Bari to Trieste.

Hi king,

many thanks!

Well, you probably know what everyone says, that Carenado is mostly looks. And that probably is true. She is well modelled with a lot of visual goodies to discover, and the Prodigy avionics suite works quite well IMO. The autopilot is a little quirky but perfectly usable. Example: you can have her at VS and IAS hold at the same time. IAS hold has been turned into some kind of autothrottle, you set the IAS and she tries to achieve it by manipulating the throttles. This is not what IAS hold or FLC should do, but I don't mind too much. I'm using external controls anyway (Saitek Multi Panel) so it is not a bad thing if planes at least use the standard functions, even if working differently. This IAS hold thing has a noticeable lag, which makes for a rather unstable glidepath in APR mode. I guess a real billionaire in the back would prefer me flying her by hand :)

The VC is rather heavy on the FPS, but I didn't notice too much stuttering. I'm running a three screen setup in triple-full-hd, so my sim is struggeling sometimes anyway.

Perfect for the short private charter flight in the 300 mile range, especially if one stays away from the big hubs (saving some FPS...)

Very nice shots, and a beautiful airplane!

I have never flown a Phenom, but on the ones with IAS Hold (aka "Speed/Mach Hold") that I have flown, that is exactly what it is supposed to do: hold the selected Indicated Airspeed by manipulating the throttles, and it is entirely reasonable to use IAS hold and VS settings at the same time- for example, under 10,000 feet MSL I have to stay below 250 KIAS, and for passenger comfort I don't want to exceed +1500 fps climb. So I set IAS Hold for 250KIAS and VS for +1500 fpm and voilà! George takes care of it for me. When we reach our ATC-mandated step altitude of 8,000 (just for a hypothetical example), the FLC setting of 8000 levels us off, sets VS to 0 and the IAS Hold reduces thrust to maintain 250KIAS. Later when ATC clears us to FL 250 or whatever, we set FLC to 25000 and VS to +1500 to start the climb, and IAS Hold, still set to 250, adds thrust to comply. Climbing through 10,000, we increase the IAS Hold setting to 320KIAS (or whatever) and IAS Hold increases thrust to comply while we maintain our selected VS rate of +1500.

Maybe I've missed something here? What is a Phenom's IAS Hold supposed to do, if not maintain a specified IAS through variations in pitch and altitude by manipulating throttles? How is using IAS Hold and VS Hold at the same time in the Phenom a "bad thing" or unrealistic?

Many thanks @ll for your kind replies.

@Dogg:

I just find it unusual, because IAS hold in most planes I own controls only pitch, not throttles (and in this sceanrio IAS + VS wouldn't make any sense). Autothrottle with speed/mach hold to me is a different mechanism that I find in airliners mostly. I'm not talking about realism here btw, but about the way the Phenom reacts to my Saitek multi panel that has the IAS button.

I don't really care too much if every system is programmed like in RW, I wouldn't know the difference. What I do dislike though, is buttons that are clickable in the VC but don't set the flags in the sim. Here it seems to be the belt sign, I can switch to two positions, but it never shows up as 'on' in FSCaptain. I wish that devs would at least set the default flags, and then do their own thing on top. I suspect there are more buttons that don't have a simulated system attached, but I can't prove it. And I seem to have a sync issue with engine startup, the sound plays way to late. The instruments show the engines already stabilized when I hear them spooling up.
