Chitzen Itza Airport

Recommended Posts

La Cabanya airport, central El Salvador is a 3000 foot grass strip.  Been waiting to pick up some passengers and cargo for two days.  Banging on the fuselage at 0300 gets my attention and after flipping on the lights it appears that the Blues Brothers need a ride, say they work for Circus in Americas.  Dan and John need a quick ride out since their contract clowns used for odd jobs, union local 13 and 18 got into strife with the locals.  Sirens in the distance seems to expedite the loading of a few crates and pelican cases.

Line up on 20 with the compass and set the DG.  Hope the local goats get off the runway as I don't know if goat grease is an approved wheel bearing lubricant.  The night is beautiful as we head to Chitzen Itza airport in Mexico.  Blues bros say they want to slip into Mexico discretely and blend in with the touristos.  They say they will pay extra if we can land off airport.  Yeah, ya'll blend right in!

As we clear the mountains the air gets smooth as silk with the moon on our wing.

As we cross the airport I see Chitzen Itza and get an idea on how to get the bonus for off airport landing and help the blues bros "blend in discretely" with the touristos.

I don't know who invented the little approach gauge, top dead center on the panel but what a wonderful tool!   Just pick your patch, throttle for placement and the little gauge keeps you safe.

This landing is going to be tight, even for sim standards!

After seeing us flair, the grounds keeper keeps calling me Ho Li Fuq.  Nah man, that was the pilot on Asianan 214 in 2013!

While the Blues Bros are offloading, the site manger comes up screaming about unesco.  Come on man, that was a safe landing but the take off... now that may be a bit dodgy!!  I am draining the fuel down to 20 gal per side with the site manager absolutely apoplectic or is that apocolypto.  I tell him about carbon sinks and how fast the carst terrain will absorb the hydrocarbon!  Algor approves!

Spin around trying not to make a domino falling contest with the stone blocks and line up for take off.

Off we go in an unconventional TO with forward CG and late flap application.

Keeping the Caribou crew busy, great flight.

Always Aviate, then Navigate, then Communicate. And never be low on Fuel, Altitude, Airspeed, or Ideas.

Buck,

Repeat business is surely not in your future.

That Caribou his plenty of space for your passengers, luggage and a flight attendant serving

four fried chickens and a Coke, and some dry white toast!

Great pics & adventure & appreciated the KSFO reference 🙂

Keep them coming!
