Installing SP1 and SP2 ino FSX

Recommended Posts

I have a Steam edition of FSX but almost all add on aircraft lack panels although the Panel CFG is intact. I understand that I may need SP1 and then SP2. I have downloaded these and tried to install them but it asks me to re-install the original FSX. That I did  but it still will not install SP1 and SP2.  Is there any reason why this should be and is the the service pack absence the real cause of missing panels?  Finally all Project Opensky addons do have panels correctly.

FSX Steam edition already has both of those SPs in it plus Acceleration.  Are these aircraft with missing panels aliasing default aircraft panels and have you deleted any default aircraft?

Mr. Zippy has your answer -- you corrupted the Steam installation with your attempt to install the Service Packs, which are only intended for the original disc-based FSX. So that's why it wants you to reinstall FSX, the Steam version, to correct the corruption.

Gentlemen. I have now completed the advice to "Verify integrity of Games cache" Both routes obtained a satisfactory result: so no problems there. However I have now looked closely at the folders for three particular aircraft. The Avro Shackleton, the Gloster Meteor T7 and the Shorts 360.  All have a similar list of folders. The aircraft has the PANEL folder and the aircraft CFG in each case says the normal PANEL= . Inside the PANEL folder is another PANEL cab file with CFG with full coding plus folders of images..

It seems to me that something is wrong with the installation but I follow the designers instructions carefully. Any ideas?

One thing sounds very odd.  You say the Panel Folder contains a .cab file, a .cfg full of coding and folders of images.

1.  Are these Rob Richardson aircraft newly downloaded from somewhere?  Where did you download these from?

2.  Are the folders inside of the Panel Folder labeled?

3.  Maybe open one of these Panel Folders and take a screenshot of what's in them.

For the heck of it, I went over to SOH and downloaded Rob's Shorts 360 to look at the Panel Folder:  The folder with the pics are just Thumbs.db nothing to worry about!

One more thing....I know a lot of us who used FSX were 2d panel junkies and our aircraft start by showing a 2d panel.   These aircraft have only a VC, so be sure to make the switch.

Well guys I have tried all your suggestions but`with very limited success. I have loaded the aircraft and they are excellent externally. There is never any panel but on the suggestion that I should press the A key I get the top ,of the panel about 2cms deep and if I press it again untra large views of a small part of the panel etc.. Someone said press F10 but that does nothing. Do these Richardson models have a 2d panel as well which one can switch to in flight?  No real luck yet. They all load easily as instructed but never mention what to do about a VC or 2 d panel.  Any clues for me?

Many thanks

Michael

Have you tried panning around the cockpit and does anything show up?  You may have an eye-point problem.  It might be like your nose is up against the windscreen, so you don't see any of the panel.

Does it look like this without seeing the gauges?

Mrzippy ,firstly thanks for all your help and the screenshots I have  will not load as the extension is incorrect. However I have your image exactly. I have also found that the other images come if I use Cockpit view - radio shack etc BUT still no complete panel that I can use to set up radio frequencies, AP , air speed etc

Looks like an eyepoint problem.  I saw one other post in the FSX-SE forums about losing the panel in the VC view due to deleting a program called EZDOC.  It messed up

the Camera.cfg file.
