Saitek X52 (Not the pro version!)

Recommended Posts

HI guys :)

Recently I've been having a few issues with the aforementioned joystick/throttle from Saitek. The problem being this; There are no, none at all, lights on it even when the sliders are set to max in the programming software. I unplug it and plug it back in, I get lights. Same when I download the drivers form Saitek themselves, just to make sure I have the latest ones available.

One other problem I have been having is that I've been loosing the stick, as in power at odd times and not just when FSX, both Classic and Steam as well as X-Plane are running, also when I'm doing other stuff, like photo-manipulation. Tried everything, Taking it out of the USB 2.0 port and plugging into a USB 3.0 port, front ports, back ports, same thing. I have the rudder pedals and have no problems at all with them.

PC Specs-

CPU - Intel i7-4790K

Motherboard - Asus Maximus VII Ranger

GPU - Asus ROG GTX 760 Striker

Mem - Corsair XMS3 PC12800 (8Gb)

I'm thinking, hardware problem somewhere, like the joystick is wearing out. (It is 7 years old.) Could be wrong.

Any ideas, and please note it is the Saitek X52. It is not the X52 Pro.

At crash inquiry; "...that big fan on the front got on my nerves so I switched it off and the ground didn't like it."

I've seen a lot complaints about the cable that goes between the throttle and stick going bad on the non-pro (some have poor connectors/wiring apparently) which leads to problems like you have. So try replacing that cable, otherwise age may be a problem...a loose solder connection internally perhaps.

On my pro I have the problem of the cable falling out a lot, I'm working on ways around that now.

Just spent some time with a cable that had the same connectors and stripped it down. I then soldered the wires to the connectors in the throttle/stick. Same problem. So I am really beginning to think it is age getting the better of it.

You probably have nothing to lose by talking that soldering iron and reflowing some of the internal joints... I just read one success story of someone with a problem like yours doing that. But alas nothing lasts for ever I'd give a lot if I could get my original Logitech FF joystick to work... the one with a 15 pin connector.

One good thing I just found out on the pro model that cable is really just an s-video cable I got lots of those if it goes bad and I may did out a longer one so I can put the throttle on my left side.
