r6nick
Hi all I know its been done to death so not going to ask about new components etc but I would appreciate it if you could let me know if it worth keeping any of my current pc or starting totally from scratch. No point buying everything if I could save some cash. My current system: Antec 300 Three Hundred Case Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz Socket LGA1156 8MB L3 Cache MSI P55-GD65 iP55 Socket 1156 Gigabit Lan 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler Corsair 750W HX Modular PSU Crucial 16GB DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Memory Kit CL9 1.5V 1gb NVidia GeForce GTX260 Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 16MB Cache Sony AD-5240S 24x DVD±RW & DL SATA Optical Drive - I wont be able to afford new parts until next year so intend to buy an i7 plus GTX 970 card I think and a motherboard to fit. Err so basically, is the case and power unit usable? realise after typing this that's about all I wont need to change! I do feel the Antec 300 might a bit small. thanks Nick
CRJ_simpilot
Not sure about the case, but it looks like the GTX 970 requires at least a 500 watt PSU, so your current one would suffice. Your Evo 212 is a good cooler and I would defiantly reuse it. OOM errors? Read this. What the squawk? An awesome weather website with oodles of Info. and options. Wile E. Coyote would be impressed. r6nick
Thanks, that's a good £50 saved so all helps. I didn't realise you could reuse a cooler due to the paste used, is that easy to clean off? (That was my first ever build)
evm
You could get away with just changing CPU, motherboard and GPU. Just make sure your current memory sticks are compatible with the new mobo.
krasen
Greetings, Thanks, that's a good £50 saved so all helps. I didn't realise you could reuse a cooler due to the paste used, is that easy to clean off? (That was my first ever build) it is extremely easy to clean off the cooler, especially if you use one of the products designed for it. I use ArtiClean, a 2 step process, which takes maybe five minutes... You can find it at any good computer shop, I think I paid a whopping US $8 for the 2-bottle set. BS616
Most people just use isopropyl alcohol (rubbing) and lint free cloth.
