Steph70
Hello! I downloaded "FSX Steam Edition" and saw a big difference to my FSX DVD version: I see some objects (like ships or parked cars in 3D) much later; only when I´m quite near to them. For example, I see whirling water before the ships appear. Is there a setting, where I can see objects earlier, like there´s a setting to see effects earlier (in effects.cfg)? Thanks in advance! mrzippy
Setting LOD_RADIUS to a higher number in your FSX.cfg will sharpen terrain at a longer distance (with lower FPS), for objects like ships, buildings, trees and such, which are Autogen, you can try maxing the Autogen slider to see if it will help. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!

kingnorris
Thanks! It´s 4.5 in both versions. What´s the maximum? 6.5 should do it. Although, any change you make within the simulator will revert the cfg back to 4.5. MBKHOU
What you are seeing may well be due more to the "SmallPartRejectRadius", than the LOD_RADIUS. The LOD_RADIUS I think for more for scenery way off in the distance towards the horizon. If you are talking about objects that you see fairly close up, it's likely the SmallPartRejectRadius setting, which is different for SE than box FSX. SE has it set by default to drop objects at much closer distances than box FSX. This is one reason why some are seeing better frame rates around airports and such. And SmallPartRejectRadius applies only to AI models like airport vehicles, AI aircraft, and boats. Does not effect autogen or highway traffic. And being the objects you are seeing the difference are AI objects, that points to it being more likely the SmallPartRejectRadius setting than the LOD_RADIUS. If you want to see closer objects in SE about the same as FSX, you can add SmallPartRejectRadius=number to the FSX_SE.cfg to adjust how close you want the objects to blank out. The higher the number, the closer they will drop out. Zero is max distance to see them. Some speculate that around 3 or 4 is appx equal to FSX box. So the default SE setting is likely a bit higher than 4.
Guest RogierMaas
I have been searching this problem for a few months now and although I am using FSX-SE, I could not find an fsx_se.cfg file anywhere. To make things even more complicated, I am flying using my Oculus Rift and got this problem. So if you are flying using FlyInside, go to C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX and find fsx_FlyInside.cfg Find the [scenery]-section and add/modify SmallPartRejectRadius=1 That worked for me..
