vride1
Ok newbie here. So I've got some cash for a gaming computer, budget $500. My main thing would be the ability to run multiple screens and proper framerates... current computer is like playing on a 70's arcade machine!! NB- we're talking FS9 here, not FSX. Should be a little less grueling for the computer at least. I would like a 64-bit machine, btw. Some that I've found- opinions please!: 1) i5-4430 3.0GHz, 4gb RAM, 500gb HD, nVidea GTX650 1gb, Windows 8.1, $500 2) AMD A-series APU processor A8-6600K quad core 4.2GHz (overclocked), 8gb RAM, 250gn HDD, Radeon HD 8570D GPU, Windows 7, $400 3)AMD Athlon 370K Dual Core 4GHz, 4gb RAM, 1TB HD, GeForce GT730 1gb video memory, Windows 7, $450 4)AMD A-4 6300 3.7GHz, 4gb RAM, 320gh hard drive, Radeon HD8370D graphics, $320 5) AMD FX4300 3.8GHz quad core, 4 GB DDR3, 250gh SATA HD, ATI HD3000 graphics, windows 7, $360 6) AMD A6-7400K 3.9 GHz dual core, 8gb RAM, 1TB HD, Radeon R5 graphics, windows 7, $400 7) AMD FX6300 black edition 3.5GHz-Vishera FX64, 8gb DDR3, 120gb SSD, windows 8, $450 I'm obviously not looking to own the next supercomputer for this price, I do want best I can get though, and you guys have had a lot more experience at this than I have. thanks for reading this rather long post! PhantomTweak
Well, I'm using a very old Dell Studio-1737 dual-core 2.53MHz with 4GB RAM and an ATI Radeon 3650 with the latest drivers. I've gone so far as to actually replace the cooling fan. Once. It cools both the main CPU and on-board Display Processor chip. My FS9 runs like a dream. Smooth as silk sliding across a....ahem... sorry! But you get the idea. FSX-SE, not so much. at least last time I tried it. Been a while, and they may have updated SE settings and .cfg some, I hear. Oh! and I use a laptop. The Dell, that is. It's pretty good size for a laptop, but such it is. That all I can say from personal experience. I am going to presume, since I never assume, that anything with a more powerful and faster CPU and even slightly better GFX card will do even better. Does that answer your question? Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again! Not bad.. the graphics card is fairly weak, I doubt it has enough outputs for 3 screens. But you could always upgrade that later. The i5 is a solid choice. vride1
going all out and planning to go with this instead (and live off instant-noodles packets for the next year!) JSkorna
That is over-kill for FS2004. That CPU won't do a thing for FSX though, even in a year. http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png
PhantomTweak
Unless I miss my guess, that machine will run FS9 for a treat. FSX, not a clue. I kinda gave up trying to run that on this poor old Dell. It looks to me like it should, but I'll leave that to more qualified types. And don't complain, I've been to places, when I was in, where a package of Ramen, especially if you put a shaving of meat in it, is nearly a banquet. Add some rice on the side, and there ya go! Enjoy the banquets! :D Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! vride1
I certainly plan to! And I'll be with FS9 for a while... downloaded too many addons, scenery, aircraft to go to waste!
Django
FS9 doesn't care about threaded CPUs or multi cores, you might not even need a quad core to get good results. I assume you plan to run at 1080p resolution, do you plan to stretch the 3D view across 4 monitors? I'm not sure even in FS9 if that GTX750Ti would be so happy with that! Regards, Django EGLL.
