Engine startup/shutdown of Tim Conrad's PC6 Porter?

Hello, Gents.

Other than Cntl-e, is there any way to start up the aircraft within the vc? The engine startup switch is locked to the ignition switch, so that clicking the starter switch after the ignition switch has been turned on effectively shuts down the start up sequence.

Also, with no condition lever, how is engine shut down achieved? (I use the FSX in-house engine shut off to do this now).

Other than these two nit-picks, I really enjoy flying this airplane.

Thanks in advance.

Is it the turboporter that's here in the library? pc-6c_h2turboporter.zip

I see you mentioned the lack of conditioning levers, so I'll assume it's the turbo. I had no problem with engine start. I turned on the battery, clicked on ground start switch and then lifted the red cover over the engine crank switch, flipped it and she's off and running.

Now I'll try a shutdown.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it's the one in the library. My problem is/was that when I click the ground start switch, the engine crank switch is also switched on! So clicking the engine crank switch shuts down the whole start-up sequence. Strange that it works correctly for you.

OK, I just tried it again and your are right that both switches are tied together. I get a good engine start and run and then turn both switches off. To shut down I pull the red emergency fuel cutoff and feather handle. Maybe just lift the red crank cover to expose the switch, click on either switch to start and then shut off the switches.

Ok. I think I see what I might be doing wrong--I'm leaving the switches on, waiting for the engine to engage (like I do with my piston engine aircraft). I'll try your suggestion and see what happens. I'm not on my sim computer atm, so will try later.

Here is what I've been able to discover regarding start-up and shut down of this particular version of the Porter PC6. When using the keyboard, or the equivalent buttons on one's joystick/throttle arrangement, to effect a start-up or shutdown of the PC6's engine, doing so evidently "locks out" the click point in the vc for start-up. Shut down is not affected--you can still pull the fuel cut-off lever and this will kill the engine. But using ctrl-e, or the equivalent, will not allow you to use the ground start switch or the crank switch to start the engine on a subsequent start attempt. If you enter the plane in a cold and dark configuration, using the ground start switch/crank switch combination will start the engine, however. Strange that using keyboard commands would disable mouse clicks on the two start-up switches.

Using contr E to switch the engine off throws a lot of switches. Master alternator, mixture, fuel valves, etc. often those are not all modelled, making it hard to start the aircraft. This affects default aircraft also.

After I discovered that I never used control E to switch off the engines anymore. I usually just throw the Fuel Control Switches to the cutoff position. (flying in jets usually)

Interesting! I never tried using CTRL+E to do a shutdown! In the default and freeware 737's if you don't shut down the engine start valves using the 2 knobs in the VC overhead, hitting CTRL+E after engine start will shut the valves but the engines remain running.
