HELP!!! Can't start FSX!!!

Hello guys,

 

 

Starting on Tuesday, I can't start FSX. Usually, when you double click the FSX icon, it loads for 2 seconds and shows the splash screen. When it loads for that 2 seconds, the cursor shows a blue whirling circle beside it. But now, it shows the whirling circle for a split second and doesn't even launch the splash screen. I have a lot of add ons though...

 

Is the logbook.bin corrupted? If it is, can you tell me how to fix it?

If you suspect that the logbook is corrupted, then the first thing to do is go to My Documents/Flight Simulator X folder, open it and rename logbook.bin to something like logbook_old.bin. Now restart FSX to let it rebuild a new logbook.bin file and FSX should run. There are logbook recovery downloads from here that will fix logbook corruptions.

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Beats me with a stick! You might check your Events Viewer for an error relating to FSX.

 

Control Panel-> Administrative Tools-> Event Viewer, select Custom Views-> Administrative Events.

One of the listed events will be for your CTD. The "Faulting Module" should point to the problem area.

 

Tell us what the Faulting Module is! That will point us in the direction of the proper error, aiding in troubleshooting.

 

 

Below is just an example of what you will see!

 

General Tab:

Faulting application name: fsx.exe, version: 10.0.61637.0, time stamp: 0x46fadb14

Faulting module name: This is what we need to Know!

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Fault offset: 0x0000ee3a

Faulting process id: 0x748

Faulting application start time: 0x01ce0253dc4b69d4

Faulting application path: R:\FSX\fsx.exe

Faulting module path: R:\FSX\window.dll

Report Id: 9caf77b4-6e50-11e2-8570-3085a99825d1

 

If there is not one listed:

Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000,

you will need to do as previously noted

 

 

No Faulting Module? ->

Remove all of the add-ons, and test the sim. If it works OK, then reinstall them one at a time and test.

Be sure to test each thoroughly before moving on to the next

When ever FSX has a CTD (crash to desktop) or gets an error message saying it can't run, then you need to see what type of error (faulting module) is causing this to happen. Without this info, we will just be guessing!

Hi!

 

Guess what?!

 

I got rid of all add-ons (well most of them...) and it worked okay! As you said, I am going to re-install them one by one, so I can find the one add-on that's causing the problem and delete it permanently! I think the culprit is the 777-300ER Cathay Pacific that I downloaded 5 days ago.
