tellboy
I have noticed that each update seens to be increasing the start up time. I have been recording the time on a fairly good gaming PC from the point of clicking to start to the menu selecting the flight then from there to the button to Fly. It used to be a couple of minutes total but now after the latest Nov 24 update it is over 4 minutes. Addons of UK Scenery of 8 GB into the Community Folder have made it 8 minutes. I tried the utility that creates links in the Community Folder rather than having files there thinking it might reduce the time but it is the same as I expected. So it is a case if clicking and then going away to make a cup of tea so no big problem. It is clear that the more Addons that I load will increase it so I am reducing them. It would be better if it only loaded the scenery for the immediate area you have selected to start the flight. I still think it is a very good Flight Sim. guzler
You can create presets in that tool to select what feeds in to the sim but I only installed it yesterday so haven't got that far yet. First step was to get everything in to folders instead of one big list. g7rta
The main problem is the community folder as you know. What type of storage device are you using.. M2.. HDD..etc? This can also make a difference. Ultimately I think the best thing is to leave it while you make a cuppa as you said. I guess it’s only going to get worse as we install more addons etc Regards Steve Intel I9-13900K - Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX - 64Gb DDR5 5600Mhz - Asus RTX4090 ROG STRIX 24GB 3x 43” Panasonic 4k TVs - Corsair RMx 1200W PSU - 2 x 2TB M.2, 2 x 4TB SATA III and 1 x 4TB M.2 SSDs. tellboy
Thanks , yes I guessed that was the case just to tick what you wanted to load. How are your start up times ?
g7rta
Mine takes a couple of minutes to get to the main menu, but then another 3 or 4 mins to load a flight. I haven’t timed it for a while though. I had CTD problems a couple of weeks ago (now sorted) & I still haven’t put my addons back, so my community folder is empty at the moment. tellboy
Yes I installed a Samsung 970 M2 500GB SSD before installing MSFS which is fast at over 3GB per second. I can see every update making the program bigger and bigger and will not be installing the Japan and America scenery updates and being very selective on Addons. g7rta
You’ve got the same M2 drive as me (I have 500gb for Windows & 1Tb for MSFS Just timed MSFS.. from the moment I clicked the icon to to main menu took 2mins 18 secs Then launching a flight took another 2mins 23 seconds (to get to the “ready to fly†screen) & my community folder is currently empty, although I do have three additional (payware) aircraft & a couple of (payware) scenery addons also installed. Presumably these also add to the loading times Regards Steve Edited November 27, 2020 by g7rta Intel I9-13900K - Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX - 64Gb DDR5 5600Mhz - Asus RTX4090 ROG STRIX 24GB 3x 43” Panasonic 4k TVs - Corsair RMx 1200W PSU - 2 x 2TB M.2, 2 x 4TB SATA III and 1 x 4TB M.2 SSDs. f18driver
I'm finding it's get faster and less of a hassle to drive out to the airport, pull the aircraft out of the hanger, fuel up, do the walk around, and all the checklist. terrylawdinn
On a similar theme, does anyone know if it's possible to arrange for payware, e.g. from Orbx, to not get automatically installed in the sim? I'd like to have the opportunity of selecting it myself. Have just bought the London City addon and it's gone straight into the sim, not the CF as I'd hoped. I don’t know if you can remove it once it’s installed (no doubt someone will know how) but as far as installing paid addons.. I’ve always had to select it in the content manager.. at least after I’ve reinstalled the sim, which I’ve done several times. If I remember correctly, I think when you initially buy an addon from the Marketplace you get the choice of either “buy†(so you can install later) or “buy and download†Regards Steve Intel I9-13900K - Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX - 64Gb DDR5 5600Mhz - Asus RTX4090 ROG STRIX 24GB 3x 43” Panasonic 4k TVs - Corsair RMx 1200W PSU - 2 x 2TB M.2, 2 x 4TB SATA III and 1 x 4TB M.2 SSDs. sfojimbo
I have a question along these lines. Is it possible to save "official" entries? I know that I'm going to re-install next in the week or so. If I save the entries in my official folder, can I just copy them over to the new installation? I assume that a new installation will come up with just two planes and little else. Copying them from a HD would be much faster. Has anybody tried this? i7-10700K, ASUS Prime Z490-P motherboard, 32 gig, GTX 1080 Ti, 1TB M2 drive, Thrustmaster T16000M, Logitech Rudder Pedals , xbox controller.
