Nic Jackson
All, The 3 items are CPU Intel i7-8700@3.20ghz NVIDIA RTX 2060 GPU (not overclocked) MSI Optix 1920x1080p 75mhz I also have 32GB memory installed I may have have a little money to spend so which is the bottle neck(if any) What would give me the best return or is it all pretty much well matched. If the monitor would the CPU &GPU push to 1440p with no appreciable performance loss. Not a Computer savvy guy so any advice, if any would be appreciated. g7rta
You won’t really be able to upgrade the cpu without also upgrading your motherboard. I had a similar dilemma with my i7-7700k.. in the end I bought a new motherboard, cpu, GPU and new case. Then transferred GPU & ram across You already have a reasonably good graphics card, but you could upgrade it to one of the new 30 series ones.. but what size psu do you have? That may also need upgrading. As for the monitor.. I can’t really advise you there I’d probaby stick with it for now. plainsman
Let's go backward. If you go to a 1440p monitor, then the GPU has to push ~3700000 pixels as opposed to ~2100000 pixels at 1080p. Therefore, you might expect a somewhat proportionate drop in performance if all else is equal. I don't think you gain a lot by upgrading at 1080p. You should be able to get 30 fps or better now with high settings. natman1965
Dont forget to check your PSU if you opt to upgrade to a 30 series GPU. They are power hungry. Judging from the info you supplied in regards to your question you seem perfectly computer savvy to me. Or at least as savvy as me. I sitl have a herd tim useing spell checked.:) Edited October 9, 2020 by natman1965

Art_P
Looks to me like your computer is pretty well balanced now. No one item upgrade will make much difference. A faster multi-threaded CPU seems first on the list, which also requires a motherboard and operating system (bummer). Only then would the GPU matter, and upgrading the monitor will only make a GPU upgrade more necessary. One running of MSFS on my current computer resulted in CPU clocks at 5.089 GHz and 75.6% load, 94% GPU load, and 41.8% of 32 GB RAM utilized. Still trying to determine reasons for CTDs. Nic Jackson
Guys Thank you for your advice I might just hold off until all the major updates are in from ASOBO/Microsoft and see what improvements they may bring. I might treat myself to a larger monitor at some point but I think updating any of the internals may prove to be more of a placebo effect. I may be one of the lucky ones I have had no BSODs, CTD or anything so maybe its telling me don't fix what ain't broken. Regards
