FSX Scenery--Heathrow International Airport

Loir

Recommended Posts

I downloaded and installed this scenery according to the instructions in the TXT file.

But no buildings show at Heathrow.

So I guess I have failed to do something vital or done something wrong.

Can anyone help?

Is the scenery a freeware, that you downloaded as a .zip file?

If so, give the exact filename of the .zip file and the website you downloaded it from. So someone can have a look.

Or was it something you bought, if so which company, etc.

There are just to many london scenery's, without more info it's just educated guessing.

From the readme:

To Install: There are 5 steps please read carefully:

If you are using my earlier version please remove/delete these files first, if you would rather keep them remove them to another folder not associated with FSX.

1. Take the EGLL_RS.BGL file and place this file into: Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery folder.
2. Take the EGLL_OBJ.BGL file and place this file into: Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery folder.
...

Did you perform the 2nd step ?

BTW. Nice freeware Heathrow scenery here.

Did you perform the 2nd step ?

Steps 3 and 4 are just as important.

For the buildings to show you have to copy the textures as instructed.

I did the second step and I can see the file EGLL_OBJ.BGL in

C:\program Files(x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\Global\scenery

I went back and copied the textures. I was told they already existed but copied them again anyway.

Started FSX at Heathrow. Still no buildings.

I thought maybe I have to tell FSX to use the new scenery. So I went to World, Scenery Library, Add Area, AddOn Scenery, scenery but the file EGLL_OBJ.BGL is not shown.

Any other thoughts?

Steve

Now THAT's new to me.

I supposed the OP knows the difference between NO buildings and UNTEXTURED buildings.

Rays readme says

the installation describes how to add the textures for these buildings so they show up at the airport

If you do not add the textures the buildings will not show up. You seem to think the buildings will show but will be untextured.

It has been 12 years since FS2004 was released and many still do not understand how the scenery works (same in FSX). At many of Rays airports he uses airport/city scenery from different parts of the world to design a more current airport. He disassembled parts of the Miami airport and placed those parts in London to make EGLL more realistic.

Many users and developers continue to say that cannot be done because many scenery objects are geo-locked. I wished I had a penny for every time since FS2004 was released that I said there is NO such thing as locked library scenery objects.

If you want the Empire State building in Spain, Statue of Liberty in Hong Kong, Big Ben in Sydney, Miami airport buildings in London, JFK static jetways in Singapore then by all means it can be done regardless of what you have been told.

If you want the Magic Kingdom that is in Orlando placed in Arizona no problem. Every single piece of scenery in FS2004 and FSX can be moved from one area to another area of the world. Developers of highend payware/freeware scenery tools will always blame FS when their utility will not do something they do not understand. It is not a limitation of FSX but a limitation of the Scenery utility being used regardless of what is posted.

Since Ray is moving what most everyone would say is geo-locked the textures of the buildings must go with those buildings and placed as per the SDK in the Scenery\Global\ Texture folder.

You say no buildings. Does that mean every single building at the EGLL airport is missing?

Next question ---- Did you place EGLL_RS.BGL file into: C:\program Files(x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery\scenery folder.

Make sure you have removed any previous EGLL airport files.

This is the installation procedure:

To Install: There are 5 steps please read carefully:

________________________________________________________

If you are using my earlier version please remove/delete these files first, if you would rather keep them remove them to another folder not associated with FSX.

1. Take the EGLL_RS.BGL file and place this file into: Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery folder.

2. Take the EGLL_OBJ.BGL file and place this file into: Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/scenery folder.

3. To add the textures for Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 pier 6 follow these steps:

Browse to the Flight Simulator X/Scenery/NAME/texture folder, Scroll down the list until you see these 6 Textures:

MIA_Concourses_C_D_Satalites.dds

MIA_Concourses_C_D_Satalites_LM.dds

MIA_Concourses_C_D_SatalitesSpecular.dds

MIA_Concourses_G_H.dds

MIA_Concourses_G_H_LM.dds

MIA_Concourses_G_HSpecular.dds

"COPY" these textures from that folder and "PASTE" them into the Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/Texture folder.

Please make sure you have "COPIED" the right textures into the correct folder,

4. There are jetway extensions, and to see these you need to add the textures for them, please follow these steps:

NOTE: If you have already done this with any of my other airports then this step is not necessary.

Browse to the Flight Simulator X/Scenery/NAME/Texture folder: Go down the list until you see these 2 textures:

jfk_jetway.dds.

jfk_jetway_LM.dds.

"COPY" them from that folder and "PASTE" them into the Flight Simulator X/Scenery/Global/Texture folder.

5. Start up the Flight Sim and the changes will be present.

IMPORTANT:

Make sure there is only my EGLL_RS.BGL file in the Addon Scenery/scenery folder at any time, remove/delete any other EGLL.bgl to avoid incorrect parking and other airport conflicts.

If you have any AI Traffic Addons please make sure they have "NOT" installed another Afcad for this airport as this will also cause a conflict.

To Uninstall:

1. Delete/remove the EGLL_RS.BGL file and EGLL_OBJ.BGL file including the texture files and the default airport will then be active.

make sure you have no other files active and any AI addons that may have installed another afcad for EGLL

make sure the textures go into the correct folder

if you have any more problems then may i suggest you email me

I have been a bit dumb but still have a problem.

I checked on my setup and my display settings were at the minimum. I have put them up to high and now I have buildings. But they don't look like the pics that come with the scenery pack, not nearly as detailed and no planes at gates. I removed the two files, EGLL_RS.BGL and EGLL_OBJ.BGL and everything looks the same. So the scenery definitely does not work for me.

To rsmith

Ray, I read the instructions in the ReadMe.txt and have followed them accurately. If you tell me how to email you then I will.
