Rupert
I just read an article on the Arstechnnica (Sic?) site dated yesterday that freaked me out. On a routine disturbance call a cop went into a guy's house and almost caused a National Security Alert. A MAN IN HIS OWN HOME WAS CAUGHT WITH FLIGHT SIMULATOR SOFTWARE ON HIS COMPUTER!! Yes, he is a white guy who converted to Islam. Does that mean that all of us who are simmers have to look over our shoulders from now on? Isn't mass fear getting a little out of hand?:( Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
mooneybravodes
Was he arrested and what was he charged with? Is this a single case or one of thousands? Details?
mrzippy
The cops were called out there for a disturbance? Loud noise, Guns firing, people yelling? If the officers asked and were given permission to enter, then anything in their immediate view can be considered as evidence. Guns on the table, radical magazines or books, a Flightsim running on a computer might be a concern. Link the article. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer! Rupert
And, from what I read, none of that was actually found to have happened and the guy was home alone. He was suspected for minimizing his internet link! Innocent people usually don't have a problem having a cop enter. If he were doing something shaky, wouldn't he have demanded a warrant? I'm slow, but I doubt many people are that slow! Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
lefu
Well if the guy has weird friends with long beards and they all put pics of them on the net with AK47s on their hands ? Normal. But its not vey cool when you are just a simmer, i bet there is a couple of muslims here in the forum who have long beards and play FS just for fun. one thing sure, you dont want a cop who lived september 11, enter your room while your plane is accidently crashing on a building.. Autopilot_Abuser
Just dropping the link to the afore mentioned article. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2015/02/suspicious-male-in-possession-of-flight-simulator-game-lawsuit-moves-ahead/ At crash inquiry; "...that big fan on the front got on my nerves so I switched it off and the ground didn't like it." Rupert
I guess I'm not as smart as you think you are! Bottom line do we as simmers create a threat to the USA? And? Does that mean that all of us, or even the many and/or most of us who are disabled from combat related injuries should be arrested for still trying to fly what our bodies don't allow us to fly??!! WTFIT!!?? This is, at least the last time I checked, still the United States of America! Do you or anyone else who hasn't been shot at, hit, and/or disabled in actual combat actually want to make it illegal for us to who have been there, done that to fly to with a computer what our real world combat injuries prevent from actually doing in real life? You are pushing the limits in these forums. Continuing to do so will result in your removal. Consider this fair warning. Darrell Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow. If that is true, I'm almost seventy but I'd still like to meet you on the street! Pick your location!! I'll still kick your sorry ass! This is the bottom line question of freedom of what I believe is going on today! Calm down. I never said anything of the sort. I was saying the MEDIA made a big deal out of it. I'm a vet and flight simmer myself, and I'll be damned if I'll allow anyone to misconstrue my hobby, let alone some federal agents or cops or whomever to come into my home and make assumptions... How many Purple Hearts have you been unfortunate to have received? How many Bronze Stars, Air Medals, etc. have you earned? If you won't allow actual real world pilots who have been through real world experiences to address their real world experiences, who are you to judge!!?? If you won't allow actual real world pilots who have been through real world experiences to address their real world experiences, who are you to judge!!?? Easy dude. No one is busting down doors and arresting those who are flight simming like some sort of witch hunt. In fact, the cops weren't even there to investigate his flight sim. They were there for a domestic dispute, and saw he had a suspicious looking page on his computer. The guy sounded somewhat sketchy from what I gather (avoiding the law, keeping to himself, convert to islam). So, they kept it as evidence. Thats it. You need to chill. drobson
I assume you are addressing your comments to me? I don't care how many combat hours you've flown. What I care about, is the language that you tend to use in these forums. Maybe you should take another look at the Forum Rules, which are posted at the top of these forums. If you can't conform to the rules here, and use acceptable language, maybe this is not the place for you. FWIW- I, too, am a veteran. Not a combat vet, but a vet, nonetheless. Darrell Just curious. ScatterbrainKid
do we as simmers create a threat to the USA? Nah, otherwise the 9/11 hijackers would have used flight sims to learn to fly airliners instead of signing up for expensive commercial pilot flying lessons. PS- Anyway I bet many private and commercial pilots have got flight sims on their home computers for fun and relaxation..:)
