OK, So I couldn't wait any longer and went to the MS Store and bought the Deluxe package, cuz I wanted O'Hare Airport. lol

The download did take a few hours on my XFinity 100mbps internet but no problems were encountered. Yay!

It does take a while to load the game, but the file IS a monster so that's OK by me. I get a message that "my PC does not meet minimum specs" but it 'should' meet the recommended spec? Then the sim starts normally and seems to run fine.

I have a 64 bit Windows 10 HP Pavilion Desktop, 590-p0xxx, i5-8400 CPU @ 2.8ghx, 16gb RAM showing 15.9 usable, NVidia GTX1050 graphics card with 2gb of VRam.

Could the 2gb of VRam be the issue? And would I be better served picking up say a GTX 1660 card with 6gb if it fits in my PC case?

I found an online test and it confirms MY PC meets the minimum specs for Flight Simulator, so I'm puzzled.

It will run

I have a very similar

an i5 7400 3ghz 16ram GTX1060 3GB ram and run at 1980x1080p at High End

But my monitor helps the fps because it has Freesync. You should be OK with medium settings

The minimum specs list 2GB of VRAM so that shouldn't be an issue. Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers installed? Is Windows up to date (you need Windows 10 version 1909 or later).

I just updated my NVidia drivers and Windows 10 then restarted the desktop. Same error message.

FWIW I am starting the game from the desktop icon.

Any other possibilties?

Have you checked the Windows version to make sure it is fully upgraded? Another option is to go into the Apps & Features settings and run a repair on MSFS.

Yep, newest Windows version and also did the MSFS 'repair' and got a check mark. It may be that my GTX 1050 graphics card is just too slow? I dunno.

Due to power supply constraints I've ordered a GTX1650 with 4gb VRam to upgrade my 1050/2gb and am hoping that will be the fix. I'll know Thursday if Amazon delivers as promised.

I am DELIGHTED to report that installing the new GTX1650 with 4gb VRam did the trick and has cured the error message problem. FS is loading and running as it should. YAY!

Thanks for the assist. Now I'm working to experiment and configure all the various settings for best performance with my system and controls - a Logitech Yoke and Throttle quadrant and Thrustmaster rudder pedals. I also thank the various gods for all the terrific simmers and YouTubers out there who take the time and make the effort to help the rest of us navigate this quite complex sim flight world that Microsoft has brought forth.

"So far so good" as they say.

Sometimes problems just take a willingness to learn and to spend more $$$ to make them go away - lol

I reckon if I were a skilled gamer and PC builder I'd have taken the leap and bought a much higher level desktop when my old one crashed in April. But this unit 'seemed' light years ahead of what broke, who knew that FS would require warp speed ahead instead? - lol
