Intel HD4600 Graphics Card - any good for FSX?

Recommended Posts

Is a SFF i5-4590 3.3 ghz 8Gb RAM with an Intel HD4600 GPU any good for FSX with 3 x 22" LED's running? It won't take an Nvidia 750 Ti (due to PCIe x 16 slow being in a bad position - the card would need to be single slot low profile.

or

Is an i5-3470 2.3 ghz 8GB RAM with an Nvidia 750 Ti a better fit for FSX?

Hope you can help advise.

Many have commented that the best bet for FSX is a fast CPU; at least 3GHz or better.

A standalone GPU of at least 1GHz also helps.

I see that you're referencing a Small Form Factor (SFF) case; those don't leave much room for upgrading... as you state in your original post.

You might take a look at Newegg or Amazon to see if you can find a low profile single slot Graphics Card.

I'm sure others will chime in... :)

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.. its appreciated.

I guess what I really am asking is which of the following systems is better for running FSX:-

1. i5-3470 3.2 GHZ, 8GB RAM, GTX 750Ti GPU

2. i5-4590 3.3 GHZ, 8GB RAM, Onboard GPU Intel HD 4600

The one with the faster CPU, or the one with the better GPU? Unfortunately I can't fit the GTX 750Ti into the 3.3 GHZ machine :-(

Thanks

I would lean towards #1... the fact that the GPU is a standalone Card, makes all the difference. #2, with its onboard Graphics, the inability to use a 'standard' standalone Graphics Card and the Small Form Factor eliminate that one as a viable choice.

Just found that PC can take an i7 3770 3.4ghz. This would cost about £230.

Is there likely to be significant FPS improvement by doing this?

To be honest... not too much. It also depends what 'environment' you're flying in.

It seems to me that simmers who get the 'best' results are overclocking higher end i7 CPU's to at least 4GHz and above, with water cooling. Even with those add ons, they have to be very judicious with FSX Settings, and end up living with some FPS drop in high traffic, Scenery intensive Locations.

Unfortunately, this is the nature of FSX; I honestly do not know if there's a computer out there that can run FSX at full capacity, without a performance drop anywhere in the FS 'World'.
