isterrett
I wonder if someone from Microsoft could explain why the US version of MSFS2020 for pre-release will be $59.99 $89.99 and $119.99 respectively while in the UK it is £59.99 £79.99 and £109.99 respectively while the exchange rate (poor) stands at $1.23 to the pound? The way I see this, we're being ripped off to the tune of almost £1 to the $ and the pound has never been that low!
g7rta
It’s always like this, whatever you buy from the states. VAT is included in the price remember. If it was a physical item you were buying (not a download) then you would also pay carriage and sometimes import duty. Sometimes even the carriers will charge an addition fee for paying the duty on your behalf. JSkorna
59.99 pounds is 75.4USD. 79.99 pounds is 100.54USD. 109.99 pounds is 138.24USD. Not sure where you think you are getting ripped off. http://www.air-source.us/images/sigs/000219_195_jimskorna.png

Going by those figures.... you will pay $59.99 for the standard edition...but we will pay $75 etc So I can see where he’s coming from, but as I pointed out. The uk price also includes VAT & we always pay the same in pounds as you do in dollars. It is a bit of a rip off but everything’s like that. g7rta
180? That is expensive. Still, it’ll be worth it. zswobbie1
Why pre-order? Is there any cost benefit, or any other benefit? How much of the about 90GB+ is downloaded with the pre-order? Elvensmith
V.A.T.? At 20% that just about = the difference between the two currencies. However it's nothing new, just look at the price of everything in the UK from cars to domestic appliances or even petrol. We have always been an expensive country, but that is bordering on a political discussion which I doubt is permitted on here. Also in real terms, the price of games has come down. I remember in @1994, most of the Microprose sims like F15 Strike Eagle and F117 Stealth Bomber etc. were selling for around £40 - £45 new in WH Smith. 26 years later, to be paying £60 for a sim that gives you the whole world, ain't bad. In fact ISTR paying around £40 for the boxed FS5.1 in early 1995, after I moved from the Amiga to PC. Edited July 19, 2020 by Elvensmith Vern. tiger1962
I'm curious as well. What are the benefits of the pre-order? Apparently pre-order customers can download the sim on 17th August, a day before general release. I've pre-ordered and the only download I've been able to get so far is an 11.5mb file which installed into Windows 10 Apps. When I click on it, this message pops up: "You're too early. We know you really want to get started, but you’ll have to wait a bit longer. Check the store for the launch date." Tim Wright "The older I get, the better I was..." PAULCRAIG
I would have thought that those that have pre-ordered would have been able to download the complete sim straight away and then microsoft would only have to supply a product key code on the 18th Aug, microsoft must be confident that their servers will be able to handle the huge demand from all those people downloading on the 17th & 18th! CDNs make content distribution at scale trivial. If a few million people can stream the finale for Game of Thrones without issue, a few hundred people downloading a sim is a rounding error. It's not 1997 anymore. Cheers Luke

Kapitan
With other countries, like Brazil, its cheaper even thou brazilian currency is much less than the dollar. I paid R$ 199.00 which is equivalent to 45 dollars if I would have to exchange the money at the bank or pay by international credit (they charge an additional tax when you pay overseas), so... move on...there are plenty of cases, nothing of the sort of a ripoff like you suggest Edited July 23, 2020 by Kapitan Kapitan Anything I say is...not as serious as you think
