FSX in 16 bit color scheme

When I launch FSX my Windows 7 rolls back to its basic color scheme, so the scenery looks so bad, colors are patchy. My video card is ATI 7970 3 GB, which I don't think is the cause of the problem. When I shut off FSX W7 reverts back to the normal color scheme. Then I downloaded a small utility software which seemed to fix the problem, at lease the Windows Basic Color Scheme message does not pop up. But now I realize I am fooled, the scheme is still basic color which is 16 bit instead of 32 bit when I launch FSX, it's just that the utility kills the message. 16bit colors look horrible especially in the night. Is this just an isolated problem of mine or else? I googled but not much about this issue is talked about. Any idea? Thanks

Fsx can not run in aero.

 

You can select 32bit or 16 bit in fsx.

Start fsx, click settings, look in the graphics tab. (where you choose the resolution. (1024x768x16 / 1024x768x32))

Go here and download SchemeFix: http://www.flightsim.ee/freeware/fsx-scheme-fix . FSX stays in 32-bit mode and no other functions are impacted. I've used it for quite some time with no adverse affects.

W2DR：i did download this utility and installed. At the first I thought it was great, it worked, because when FSX was launched the basic color scheme popup message was gone, but then I realized the FSX was still running on 16bit, even there wasn't the message. 16bit color doesn't look much different in the FSX day light scenery without comparison but the 16bit night time looks horrible.

"Windows Basic" vs "Windows Aero", has nothing to do with 32 or 16 bit. Basic and Aero will run the same.

The resolution/ color bit, is set seperately, and does not change when switching from Aero to basic.

 

Do you even get an error message,? Or is it just your impression that "it does not look right". Do you see any confirmation of running 16 bit in any menu?

 

And, for some testing and getting a reference, go into Control Panel -- Personalisation.

Set it to Windows Basic, and see how the other programs look in windows.

Aero looks shiny and flashy, Basic doesn't. That has nothing to do with 16 bit.

And post what your monitor make model is. I suspect it is a 'monitor' (resolution, etc) problem and not an FSX or Windows problem.

Try MANUALLY disabling Aero.

On the desktop, Right click-> Personalize.

Select one of the Basic, or, High Contrast Themes.

 

Go back to desktop, Right click-> Resolution

Set the resolution to recommended. That should be the native resolution of your monitor.

In that window go to "Advanced settings".

Adapter tab, "list all modes", be sure it is set to the correct resolution and color depth.

On the Monitor tab check for "True Color (32bit) and verify the refresh rate...Don

You have duplicate entries for the graphics card.

 

Delete them BOTH, then fire up the sim, reset your display preferences and they should stick.

Try MANUALLY disabling Aero.

On the desktop, Right click-> Personalize.

Select one of the Basic, or, High Contrast Themes.

 

Go back to desktop, Right click-> Resolution

Set the resolution to recommended. That should be the native resolution of your monitor.

In that window go to "Advanced settings".

Adapter tab, "list all modes", be sure it is set to the correct resolution and color depth.

On the Monitor tab check for "True Color (32bit) and verify the refresh rate...Don

Because the colors are streaky and patchy, night scenes are unrealistic, night clouds look like 2 dimensional with a few patches of colors, no transitions... I tested my display by setting to 16 bit and looked at some night photos that would look normal at 32 bit, they looked similar to what I described here....

The JPG size limit is about 485KB. If you are over that then it won't upload.

I compared my FSX Accel FSX cfg entries with your FSX Cfg entries. Here are the lines that you don't have (or are different). Like it was already pointed out you have duplicate (Display_Device...) lines (and the are both different res - BIG No No!).
