Flight Springbok 148 is a Vickers Viking in a 1947 South African Airways/Suid Afrikaanse Lugdiens livery flying from Port Elizabeth, South Africa to Durban, SA (FAPE to FADN). There are 500 gallons of fuel on board and the total flight time is about 2 hours and 10 minutes. The weather for our late afternoon takeoff is fair with scattered cloud cover. We will be cruising at an altitude of 7,000 feet.

7. Cruising about 230 miles out of Port Elizabeth near the City of Mthatha with the Mthatha River below.

8. Continuing on we see the Mzimvubu River ahead.

9. With the late afternoon sun behind us we are near the small town of Flagstaff.

10. Near Port Edward a small resort town about 25 miles off our right side on the coast.

11. We’re now about 30 miles from Durban and prepare to begin our initial descent.

12. We turn and continue to descend to 3,900 feet.

13. Now about 20 miles from Durban heading toward the coast.

14. We are assigned Rwy. 6 and begin a turn to head out along the coast.

15. Making a final turn over the south east cost about 12 miles from Durban.

16. About five miles from Durban we are at 2,000 feet with gear down and flaps 20 degrees.

17. A little under two miles out we are lined up on Rwy. 6 with full flaps.

19. We Taxi to parking at gate 1 past some earlier arrivals.
