[Question] FSX reverse thrust limit

Hi to all,

Currently I use an XBOX360 gamepad in FSX:SE. I have the throttle assigned to the LB/RB bumpers, so they work in similar fashion to the F2/F3 commands: throttle increases/decreases as I hold down the button.

However, any time I fly turboprop aircraft, I come into the problem of thrust (or pitch, in that case) reversal.

 

Jet powered aircraft have a detent in FSX that prevents them from having reverse thrust engaged while in mid air. Turboprop aircraft don't seem to have that, so any time I hold down the F2/RB key, the throttle goes past idle and into reverse pitch, even in midair. Unsurprisingly, approaches tend to be frustrating as I don't have visual feedback on where my throttle is, so any time I try to idle the engine out, it goes a little bit into reverse pitch.

 

My question is: Is there a way I can enable this detent for turboprop aircraft? Or is there any workaround?

 

Any help is much appreciated.

Properly speaking, a detent is a spot in the travel of the throttle (power lever) in the jet, or the prop control of the turboprop, that physically stops or restricts the motion of the lever. But note that the reverse in FS is initiated by two different controls -- the prop lever in the turboprop -- so Zippy's suggestion might need to be modified a bit to get a unit with both throttle and prop control that has a physical detent.

 

Otherwise, I suspect there's not much hope.

 

Now watch someone come along with something clever (that would be great).

That doesn't seem to be so. I only really have experience with two turboprops, the Twin Otter and the Turbine Toucan, but in each case it's the power lever that does all the work. But yes, at the end of the day you need a controller that matches what you're trying to do, otherwise it's all down to what bodges you can figure out.

Well, maybe I had wrong info. I fly jets and turboprop so little that I don't remember much about that, but I thought putting the prop in beta would be handled by the prop control, since it's changing the pitch of the prop.

 

OK, I just googled, and I was completely out in left field. Sorry about that. So the power levers DO handle beta. I guess that helps explain why I've never been able to get reverse thrust to work on piston aircraft (Connies and such). I owe y'all an apology for not double checking my "facts."

Buy a proper controller...one that is suited for use in a flight simulator, not a shoot-em-up or platform game...
