kingnorris
Yes. I do believe it’s a direct ripoff of the free Flightgear sim. MaxLegroom990
Oh, no, not again! It's not the first time I've seen this mentioned. It astounds me that people still fall for it. Robert Smith

I think people call it a scam because they (https://proflightsimulator.com/) are charging money for a piece of software that is free from http://home.flightgear.org/ (4/16/19) ASUS ROG Strix GL702VS-AH73 17.3" Laptop. The guy stole the program from Flightgear and charges for it. Flightgear is open source and totally free. flytv1
Hi. I think people call it a scam because they (https://proflightsimulator.com/) are charging money for a piece of software that is free from http://home.flightgear.org/ In addition to the above, the software is specifically Not allowed to be sold / used for profit, which is considered stealing. That type of behavior, using someone else's free labor is still going on presently by many so called "legitimate" developers, but people have been readily accepting it. If you read some of the messages on the boards you can find some of the present vendors that have used many of the free tools, setups, flight models / dynamics from others and are now considered credible developers. The person starts something telling people it would be free and later decide that they may be able to make money and start charging, that is also stealing, but no one does anything about it. Buyer be ware.
Founder Nels_Anderson Posted February 24, 2019 Founder Share Posted February 24, 2019 In addition to the above, the software is specifically Not allowed to be sold / used for profit That actually is NOT true. Read this from FlightGear's web site: Legal or illegal? The GNU GPL license, under which FlightGear is released, allows reselling under certain terms. The main issue that FlightGear developers have is the misleading marketing tactics used by pro flight sim that target unsuspecting users who aren't yet familiar with FlightGear. This is primarily an ethical, not a legal issue. Is it legal to sell a copy of FlightGear, whether re-branded or not? Yes, provided the seller is in compliance with a number of conditions detailed in the GPL. In fact, those interested in receiving a DVD containing FlightGear may do so through the main FlightGear website, and directly contribute to the project (though they may want to wait for the upcoming release in the new year). Or read their entire article on the subject here: http://wiki.flightgear.org/Flight_Pro_Sim
lnuss
Nels has it right. The GNU GPL* is used as the "EULA" (well, maybe not exactly), for a great deal of open source, or according to many proponents, "free" software (free as in freedom, having nothing to do with purchase or not), which is intended to allow folks to use, modify, distribute, whatever within the limits set by the GPL. * GNU GPL == GNU General Public License Versions 2 and 3 are the most commonly used Larry N. kingnorris
It may be legal, but why spend money on something that is free? That’s my thinking.
