Airport in Australia

I was wondering if any of you have a chance to look at this video, if you could tell me how to find this narrow runway airport. All I could find in the way of a name was "Coldstream." The title page said Yarra Valley Flight Training.

Thank you,

Tim

Thanks, Chris. I followed the link and downloaded the file (340 MB). The size should have been a hint to me but I downloaded it, anyway. I didn't install it because it was an EXE file. I don't do EXEs unless I know the company and trust them. Like all Flight Simmers I want to know where those files are going. Besides, I did't want half of Australia; just YLIL. That's OK; I'll find a different airport to use. I was also surpised that this airport is not in FSX. Unless the airport is newer than FSX.

Thanks, anyway, Chris.

Thank you,

Tim

You do not know Orbx?

Search the FSX forum for Orbx and you will see many posts about them.

Look through the returns in the screenshot forum first.

No offense intended. When it comes to airports, scenery, textures, etc. I want to know where those files are being placed. I do have an exe file for my LEVEL-D 767 but I don't mind that because it is an airplane and the files are placed where all aircraft files are. With airport scenery there's no telling where the files went or what files were installed.

Thank you,

Tim

Tim, you can usually re-direct the .exe to install to a temp folder - check out what is going to go where, and then either install manually, or re-run the .exe letting it install to FSX.

Actually, I have done that on occasion. I did it this time to a Temp folder on the desktop and did not like the number of .bgl files and texture files. What I originally meant is that this airport, which I saw in the above video intrigued me and I went looking for it, not realizing that it was not in the FSX database. I was hoping to find a .zip file with a couple of files to place in the addon scenery\scenery folder. This was way more that what I was looking for and that little airport was not worth installing all those files. That's all it was.

Thank you,

Tim

Orbx installers can be trusted and in fact need to be trusted.

Orbx uses some custom utilities to control certain elements of their products.

If you do not install the files where they are supposed to go those utilities will not work properly and the scenery will not display properly.

I am also vary careful with installers, except for a few trusted companies.

Orbx is one of those I trust and I have several of their products.

I should point out that you should not 'dump' scenery (bgl's) in the default 'AddOn Scenery' folder. You should CREATE your own 'AddOn Scenery XX' (xx=your initials) and then make folders for EACH scenery installation under that folder (ie: AddOn Scenery XX\YLIL with a scenery folder under that (for bgl's) and texture folder (for bmps or dds, etc). That way you know what files go with what scenery. You can name the folder whatever makes sense to you (ie: 'YLIL Aus Grass Strip 2015'). You can then install and delete at will.

Dumping 40-11 different sceneries into the Default 'AddOn Scenery' (and texture) folders will render you unable to sort which files were installed by what scenery and thus are unable to delete files.

And don't just dump (or direct) the *.exe install to the 'Temp' folder. Create a new folder with a relevant name for each install (ie: 'Temp\Orbx Aus', and drop it in there. Much easier to sort that way (as per scenery suggestion). All this is 'Windows', 'Directory', 'Path', 'Folder Name(s)', 'files' stuff and not Flight Simulator stuff, just so you understand. Google any questions you have. Sometimes it helps to 'read up'.
