hjwalter
Gaztop, Please excuse my ignorance, even after 20 years of FS experience, but what are "Vlats" ? As for carriers, there are none in default FS9, so you will need to download and install one or more of them, as there are plenty to choose from. The NZ Waikato is a rather old but very good one but it could be a problem for you that it's in a fixed position East of New Zealand's North Island. You will also need to download and install something like Rob Barendregt's Carrier Operations (COP) to be able to use his separate catapult launch and cable trapping functions. Not only that but you will also need to edit the panels of one or more of your carrier based aircraft. Rob Barendregt has included exceptionally good installation instructions in his COP system, so that installation should not be a problem for anyone on any carrier wherever it may be positioned. Good luck Hans
Gaztop
Hans, thank you for the heads up pal. Vlats is short for; Very Large Aircraft Tankers. There are some great real world Vlats. I was hoping there might be some in the sim world. Cheers Hans All the best Gaztop
hjwalter
Gaztop, If you mean mid-air tanker aircraft, then there are both flyable and AI versions available in this and other libraries. However, the actual transfer of fuel is not really possible without resorting to non realistic and/or artificial means. Not only that but "hooking up" to an AI tanker's refueling basket or boom and staying in that position, is extremely difficult. Good luck. Gaztop
Got that. Vlats are used for delivering fire retardent to forest fires, ect. The biggest is the 747-400. They also use a lancaster bomber, and a DC10. Among many other aircraft. I am surprised, no one has buiilt one for the flight sim.
tiger1962
Gaztop, they have built at least one - there's a DC-6 for a start! First you'll need the excellent DC-6A base pack from California Classics here: http://www.calclassic.com/dc6a.html Then you'll need the DC-6A Air Tanker pack from here: https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/16482/fs2004-conair-dc-6-air-tanker/ Tim Wright "The older I get, the better I was..." Far as I am aware there are only two flying lancasters in the world and neither is used as a fire bomber.
hjwalter
Gaztop, There are more water bombers (or vlats as you seem to call them) to be found in the library, e.g. Bombardier's CL-215 and CL-415 in different liveries, with which you can skim over a lake with the plane's scoop extended, to fill up it's tanks. Then there's the Russian Beriev BE-200 water bomber to be found on one of the Russian FS sites and which also uses scoops to fill up it's tanks There's also the Erikson S64E Sky Crane helicopter in a water bomber version. To fill it's tanks you need to hover above a lake (or someone's swimming pool) at 15 - 20 feet. You then need to lower it's suction hose into the water and to start the pumping process. There are also other helicopter water bomber versions to be found but which use buckets or baskets to scoop up the water. If you would search the library you will most likely find even more, which by the way, have been there for ages. A Lancaster fitted out as a water bomber ???? Where on earth did you aquire that notion ???? Sounds like swearing inside a church !! Hans
