Are Aircraft designed for P3Dv4 compatible with FSX SE

Hi All,

So, I'm thinking seriously of adding a DA62 to my sim hanger. After some research (Thanks Mallcott!) I'm leaning toward the Vertx model when it comes out.

My question, since I'm running FSX SE on Win 10 would this A/C work for me? Or do I need to get P3D as well? Or will Vertx put out an FSX SE model?

Thanks,

Bill

You have to ask the designer that question.

There are two reasons why an aircraft designed for P3Dv4 won't work properly in FSX-Accell/Steam anymore:

- P3D has many new features, not compatible with FSX.

- P3Dv4 is a 64-bit sim; requiring pre-compiled (C++) gauges to be compiled for 64-bit.

So unless the designer also delivers 32-bit versions of gauges, and holds back on the new features (or provide dumbed-down alternatives) an aircraft designed for P3Dv4 won;t run on FSX-Accell/Steam anymore.

Thanks for the replies and explanations. Looks like I'll be adding P3D too.

I hate to say this is incorrect, but it's 100% incorrect. P3D is FSX with a few extra features. Native FSX planes will work in P3D 4, and FS-2004 planes will even work in P3D 3. Gauges work just fine.

Spent way too much time using these sims...

FS 5.1, FS-98, FS-2000, FS-2002, FS-2004, FSX, Flight, FSW, P3Dv3, P3Dv4, MSFS

Rubbish. As the version changes FSX and P3D grow ever further apart.

WHAT!!?? Andy, you could not be more incorrect! While some default FSX aircraft MAY work in P3D V4, you're asking for a world of trouble. FSX/P3D V4 are two different sims now, with the former being a 32 bit and the latter a 64 bit sim. Again, some of the more simplistic models (i.e. default) may work; however, you're creating an unstable environment susceptible to random crashes. I assure you none of the more sophistic aircraft are backwards compatible, unless the developers explicitly releases an FSX version.

Rob's answer is dead on; AndyJohnston is very misinformed...

XML gauges will.

But I referred to C/C++ gauges; and a 64-bit compiled gauge won't run in a 32-bit sim like FSX or P3Dv2/3.

And as far as I know, P3Dv4 only supports native FSX mdl files; so with a spilt internal/external mdl.
