shirestw
How do I remove clicking sounds in a cockpit, reference buttons or switches? I tried removing various sound files in the fs9/sound folder but no success. Are there other sounds that are not accessible, like the ones in the sound folder? Thanks in advance. mrzippy
I would check the individual sound folder for each aircraft. There should be a switch click sound .wav file that can be removed or renamed so no click sound is heard. I just confirmed this on my 172. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer! shirestw
Thanks for the reply. I guess I should be more specific. I am using the FS2004 FlightDeck Sound Effects Panel by Marcus Thompson and the buttons make an annoying clicking noise. This addon was created in 2003 so unable to make contact with creator. I tried looking in related .cfg files, sound folders, etc. Thanks.
shirestw
I replied earlier but I guess it didn't go through. I guess I should be more specific. I am using FS2004 FlightDeck Sound Effects Panel by Marcus Thompson. The buttons make that clicking noise which is annoying to me. I already looked through the aircraft, addon and fs9 sound files with no luck. Any help?
lohpsch
How about just disable or lower the volume of cockpit sounds in FSX Settings?
shirestw
No, that doesn't work. And, I'm running FS9.
mrzippy
Ah, the old hidden click inside of each gauge file trick! Double=click on each gauge file to open it. Double-click on the .rsrc folder to open it. Double click on the RCData folder and then delete the file that references the click. This is the file you want to get rid of inside of each of the gauge files for that download. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer! ronzie
I downloaded his fdsfxpnl.zip. I installed the files in a temporary folder and in FS9. I checked many of the mp3 files with an audio editor. no clicks in those. I checked the .dat files with a hex code editor. I did not see any click references. The .gau files are compiled code and since they are not xml types I could not read the code. My guess is that the click effects are standard sound effects in FS called by the gau code before and after from within that code the mp3 noted by the dat file. If you modify the the standard fs click wav files that will affect all gauges using those generic sounds. ronzie
I looked at the gau file suggested method by mr_zippy. To open the file I use the freeware 7-Zip available here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/ and download it. Install it anywhere. Now when double-click on the .gau file select open with and choose 7-Zip File manager. You can then follow through mr_zippy's procedure opening the .rscrc file and deleting the click reference and the save the modified .gau file. 7-zip is handy for opening lots of compressed file formats like this c++ language based .gau file. shirestw
Ok, thank you. Now, having trouble downloading 7zip. Will a program such as winzip do the same?
napamule2
Yes. WinZip is much easier to work with, IMHO. Chuck B Napamule i7 2600K @ 3.4 Ghz (Turbo-Boost to 3.877 Ghz), Asus P8H67 Pro, Super Talent 8 Gb DDR3/1333 Dual Channel, XFX Radeon R7-360B 2Gb DDR5, Corsair 650 W PSU, Dell 23 in (2048x1152), Windows7 Pro 64 bit, MS Sidewinder Precision 2 Joy, Logitech K-360 wireless KB & Mouse, Targus PAUK10U USB Keypad for Throttle (F1 to F4)/Spoiler/Tailhook/Wing Fold/Pitch Trim/Parking Brake/Snap to 2D Panel/View Change. Installed on 250 Gb (D:). FS9 and FSX Acceleration (locked at 30 FPS).
shirestw
Awe hell, I can't figure it out. Mr. Zippy, would it be too much trouble for you to e-mail said files with the click removed? shirestw@msn.com It would be MOST appreciated. If not, no hard feelings. You don't know me and you have your own stuff to do. Alright, thanks. Todd
shirestw
Ok, I was able to open in 7 zip but when I got to the click file and tried to delete it, I got a prompt saying "no such interface supported". I tried to modify its contents and still got the same prompt. Ugh.
ronzie
Winzip 11 did not open the .gau file. http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/files/latest/download and click on 7-Zip and it should come up with the installer file 7z938.exe. After downloading it run this installer placing it in a folder of your choice. 7-Zip File Manager.exe is the application. If you want you can execute that and then browse to the folder of the .gau file of interest and click on that. When I installed 7z935.exe (just a few days ago) it registered itself as a program in Win XP (and I assume will in Win 7) so the a right click on the .gau file looks like: KMSP - Minnesota: Land of 10,000 Puddles Support Team [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mrzippy
Sorry this turned into such a PITA! At least you now know where the click is coming from. I got the same response you did when trying to delete it. I'll leave it in ronzie's capable hands. ;) Lots of work for some stupid clicks. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer! shirestw
Thanks all. Maybe it wasn't meant to be lol. I figured out how to remove it but it screwed up the normal operation of the addon. I only removed the click from one gauge file and the whole switch disappeared and I got a couple error prompts when I loaded the ac with the addon. It removed sound from all other switches which was cool. However, the next time I tried loading said ac, CTD. I just said to hell with it and put the original gauge file back and I just have to accept the damn click. Thanks for all ya'lls help.
