GTX660-DC2O-2GD5 with 3-4 monitors....ok I hope?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys and gals my first post. I'm building a computer for FSX and hopefully its good enough for X-plane 10.

I plan on using 3 27" monitors with this card: GTX660-DC2O-2GD5

This will work I hope?

The rest of my build is this:

- ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

- Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5GHz LGA 1150 Desktop Processor BX80646I54690K

- 2x this RAM, so 16GB: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL

- APEVIA X-TROOPER Series X-TRP-GN Black/Green Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

- Thermaltake Toughpower 750W Power Supply Unit - ATX, 80+ GOLD, Modular, Black - PS-TPD-0750MPCGUS-1

- Samsung 27" LED Monitor With 5ms Response Time (LS27D390HS/ZC) -I went with this because the bezel is nice and thin. So far only 1 is on it's way to me.

-Samsung 250GB Solid State Drive (MZ-7TE250BW) (Not ordered yet)

- I will have a HD but haven't decided on which one yet therefore not ordered yet.

Now mind you I have NOT ordered the CPU and motherboard yet. They are just ones that caught my eye.

Well what do you think?

Thanks for any advice :D

Looks like a decent plan to me...EXCEPT:

- 2x this RAM, so 16GB: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL

It is not a good idea to use two sets to achieve more memory. Not even identical part numbers can creat a matched set. Find a single 16GB matched set(4x4GB or 2x8GB) that meets your speed and latency needs...Don

HAF 932 Adv, PC P&C 950w, ASUS R4E,i7-3820 5.0GHz(MCR320-XP 6 fans wet), GTX 970 FTW

16GB DDR3-2400, 128GB SAMSUNG 830(Win 7 Ult x64), 512GB SAMSUNG 840 Pro(FSX P3D FS9)

WD 1TB Black(FS98, CFS2&3, ROF, etc.), WD 2TB Black-(Storage/Backup)

Ok cool. I already have 2x 4GB of the RAM so I will maybe keep that on standby and go for a 16gig set like you mentioned! :)

Any other advice? What about the card I chose, is it up for the task of 3 monitors...maybe 4? I'd like to use the 3 x 27" for my main view and a 15" for the flight instruments (if possible.)

Monitor size doesn't matter. Resolution does.

3 x 1080p monitors(5760 x 1080) could be too much for the GTX 660 if your sliders are cranked up. If it wasn't up to speed, you could add another in SLI later, but, SLI/Crossfire doesn't scale very well for FSX. It's better to have a capable single card solution up front.

With a GTX 660 retailing ~$175, twice that to do SLI, look at better cards ~$350+.

Anandtech's GPU comparison puts the GTX 970 on par with the Titan at extreme(4K) resolutions. At~$200 cheaper than th GTX 980($550), or $600+ cheaper than a Titan, I'd say it's a pretty good bargain. I can say that my new GTX 970 FTW rocks. ..Don

Hmm. Well, that is the card I have coming so I will have to play with some setting and see what happens. I't been awhile since I built a system and though I'm computer savy, i'm quite green when it comes to video cards and gaming. Last system I ever built was an AMD 700 rocket ship with 256mb of RAM! LOL

I've been horsing around with FSX on my laptop just for the hell of it and i do see the limiltations. It's a DELL Inspiron N7110. So I figure anything has got to be better than this LOL
