revkev
I hope someone might be able to give advice on this issue. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, Dallas Fort Worth, KDFW, is no longer available in my airports list. To clarify, it shows up in the list but when it is selected and FS9 goes back to the main page it says "do not use Dallas Fort worth." When I ignore the message and select "fly" it comes up as open fields. I did have FR DFW scenery activated and that wasn't showing up. As an interim I have installed the Calclassic "Amon Carter Field" to give me a Dallas airport. My system is: Win7, 64 bit; 8gb ram, i5 quad core processor, SSD. I also have Ground Environment 2006 installed. I don't think there is anything else to advise about my system. Is anyone able to offer any solutions? Many thanks in advance. CRJ_simpilot
I don't understand this message, "do not use Dallas Fort worth." Something is popping that up at you. Perhaps the scenery add-on in that area or an airport add-on in that area. I would eliminate those one at a time and see what happens. OOM errors? Read this. What the squawk? An awesome weather website with oodles of Info. and options. Wile E. Coyote would be impressed.
StringBean
Well, I have no friggin' clue what "FR DFW scenery" is, so I will guess that it disabled the default KDFW when you installed it and simply deactivating it (without properly uninstalling it) has left you with no KDFW. Try uninstalling it and see if that fixes it. Also, look in ...\FS9\Scenery\Namc\Scenery for any files that might have been made inactive by changing the file extension from .bgl to something else. While you are in that folder look for AP922200.bgl and verify that it... a) exists b) is dated May 29, 2003 c) and weighs 17,391 bytes Make sure you are looking at AP9, then (3) twos, then (2) zeros. peace, the Bean WWOD---What Would Opa Do? Check to see if you have a file named AF2_KDFW_remove.bgl and put it out of use or remove it. It is probably in the CalClassicCore directory structure. It comes with the CalClassic scenery because KDFW didn't exist in those days. John http://www.adventure-unlimited.org My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! tgibson_new
Hi, In general when you want to bring back a modern airport after installing CalClassic scenery, remove all files that have that ICAO code in them in the CalClassic Core folder (and in the CalClassic addon airport's folder). There is at least one more for KDFW, xkdfw_remove.BGL. That one excludes the buildings there. Actually Amon Carter was Ft. Worth's airport - Dallas Love Field was the main airport in the greater metro area back then. It had more flights than Amon Carter. PS. A simple search of the folder in System 7 found only the AF2 file, because even with "partial searches" turned on in the Options, Windows 7 only finds files with words in them STARTING with the search term (in this case KDFW) (also following underscores, etc.) but will NOT find files that have words like xkdfw in them. So search carefully. Hope this helps, Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.com
CRJ_simpilot
The best search tool you'll ever use is Everything.exe from Void Tools. I use this on all my computers and disabled indexing for the hard drives. It will search for any, and I mean ANY file with any name whether it's hidden or not. You don't even have to turn on 'show hidden files' in the folder options of the Windows control panel. You can let it set in your taskbar, but I don't do that. So every now and then when I fire up Everything it has to index the hard drive. It takes about 30-45 seconds. If you leave it run in the taskbar, I imagine you would have a constant updated database. Another tool that I highly recommend that can help in doing things is FileSeek. This program is free as well and offers a paid-for version. The program will search for text in damn near any file imaginable. I would pare it with Notepad ++ as the file handler. https://www.voidtools.com/downloads/ https://www.fileseek.ca/Download/ OOM errors? Read this. What the squawk? revkev
First of all, my apologies for my typo; I am using the DFW scenery "FRF-KDFW Vol 3" (FRF stands for frame rate friendly.) Now, my thanks to all who replied to my original post, especially John and Tom Gibson. I found the two named files and, at first, changed the file extension but this didn't correct the problem. I then removed the files (stored them elsewhere) and the issue is resolved. There are a couple of other replies given that I will investigate further, the search tools in particular, but the issue is now resolved and I am not facing a complete re-install of everything. Again, my sincere thanks to all who responded and helped me.
