Feel free to add an explanation if required:

1. Do you start your flight from the active runway?

2. Do you fly to any default airports?

3. Do you use unlimited fuel?

4. Do you use no navigation instruments and let ATC totally control your flight path?

1. Do you start your flight from the active runway? No, never.

2. Do you fly to any default airports? A lot. I only have a few paid-for airports.

3. Do you use unlimited fuel? No. But in my F22 I can press a refuel button if need be which is rare.

4. Do you use no navigation instruments and let ATC totally control your flight path? Yes. I have ATC and use my instruments at the same time. Sometimes VFR.

Why do you ask? That question is more interesting than your 4 or our answers.

Haha, you are clearly a wise man Roger.

The answer to your question I could literally type tens of thousands of words. I'll try and keep it brief.

I have a friend who got me started with FS9 15 years ago by putting on a bet I could not get the 5 FS licenses. From this point on, I became hooked on flight simming. Over the past 15 years we have exchanged a ridiculous amount of conversation regarding flight simming. Over the course of the 15 years I went from someone who knew nothing about flying or FS and progressed into a reasonable FS user flying advanced payware jets etc. My friend loves jets, all he flys, tells everyone he didn't start in props, went straight to jets!

Over the 15 years he has not progressed with FS at all. I have done everything, tried everything to get him somewhere but he just refuses to do anything! It totally blows my mind. You could create a comedy movie of some of the things I've tried over the years to get him somewhere.

My friend would answer "yes" to all those 4 questions I asked. Believes "yes" to all would be a reasonably common response. In a last ditch effort to get him doing something I put up the 4 questions here and at the other site to show him this is not how the majority of the world uses FS.

He won't go near forums, he couldn't be bothered spending the time necessary to learn flight simming. He has not been through FS's learning center. He has however purchased some advanced payware jets he can't fly, things like Active Sky which he turns off if he gets poor visibility coming in on approach because he only uses the windows to find the airport.

I have seriously tried everything. I even went to his house, signed him up on the two major forums, created avatars and bookmarked the pages! He did not even bother to go click his mouse and go have a look. Meanwhile, every time he touches something in FS he hits problems and immediately texts me for help. Sometimes I can solve his issues and sometimes I hit the forums myself to find solutions to his problems!

Anyhow, so much more to it all but it's almost become a personal challenge to get him flight simming even at the most basic level. I am at the point now of having to simply accept it's been an epic fail! lol

I should also say, after giving it some thought I did consider the questions worth posting just to see how the numbers did fall. People use FS in so many different ways. I had expectations how a poll like this would pan out but it is interesting to see if there are any surprises. I also think some answers may differ if you are a jet or prop fan. I would answer no to all myself but I've only flown jets for a long time. I'm going to fly some props again at some stage and can see it's possible I may answer things differently flying props. I likely would at least remove a definitive "no" from every question and replace some answers with an "occasionally."

I learned all by myself. Once day I installed FS2004, jumped in the Lear 45 and just took off out of Seattle I think it was. From then on I learned. My first long distance trip was from Denver to Vegas and I still fly that route quite often. I never even read how to operate the PMDG 737, but learned all that myself as well, although, I had some help with watching YouTube videos. I can't say I know everything about the 737, but if the time were ever to come where hijackers killed the pilots and I was in a 737, I could more than likely get her down with aid from ATC with vectors to the nearest airport. I wouldn't even touch the FMC at that point. I have a felling a lot of people fantasize about being a hero pilot. I know I do. LOL! Although, I just hope to GOD it isn't an Airbus. LMAO!

I don't fly often but the times I have in a 737 I sat there hoping something would happen to the pilots. (Not die or anything, just pass out or something. Cabin crew asking if anyone knows how to fly the plane? lol)

Oh, totally funny on the Airbus and totally agree!

Since starting FS I have been up in a Cessna 172 couple of times and flown it for around 90min. No takeoffs or landings as the airport where the plane was kept didn't allow student activity. Learned everything I was doing from FS and managed to do quite a good job even holding the plane at a steady altitude in a little turbulence. Did a couple of climbs and descents and a 360 degree turn. All good fun and would love to have a go at a 737! haha

Regarding the graphic, yes, yes, yes! I could tell so many stories. I even invented and sent pics of non existent super attractive VATSIM controllers by pulling some random google pics to hopefully spark some activity. Failed.

HAHAHA! That's classic. But I'm afraid in reality they are mostly male if not all and are pretty much nerds.

Speaking about VATSIM. I recently regained my account after an 8 year hiatus and I asked a question on their forum about me using VATSIM with the default GPS in my F22. I mentioned how I fly at mach 2.35 and a dude quickly chimed in saying you can't do mach speed over the U.S. I was like, who Fing cares! It's just a game, dork. LOL But I guess they want it to be as real as possible. One user chimed in saying where in the VATSIM rules does it say you can't fly mach speed? So I don't know. I may do it anyway and see if a controller yells at me. LOL
