gbapache1960
Longtime simmer here. I used Win XP for years but now have a new computer that is giving me fits. First is that I can go into the program files for FSX and look at all my planes but when I go to pick an airplane I find that many are not shown at all i.e. the Maule. It's in the program but not available to choose. My other trouble is that when I try to install a downloaded plane (all my planes come from here) the dialogue box says "Unable to open file............." and list every file having to do with that plane. When I try to install a plane with self-installer it then tells me " Failed..7-zip not implemented." I can't even find out what that is. Any advice appreciated. hornetdriver25
Never had that problem on my 8 machine. Try setting the compatibility mode on the desktop icon. System specs: AMD FTX 6300 six core processor 3.5 GHz, Video card Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 Ti 2 GB on board, Windows 8.1 64 bit and 1 TB on hard drive. pvarn
Tell us about your new computer. A bunch of guesses based on my punitive understanding of your description... Winzip is not needed for Win7 and 8. Zip file extraction is automatic and File Explorer treats zip archives like every other normal folder. Just open two Explorer windows, one showing the zip contents (just double click on the zip) and another opened to the location you want the files to go and just drag. Perhaps you are trying to run an uninstalled copy of winzip on your win7-8. Not necessary and a waste of effort. If you tried to install the winzip you used on XP and it now tried to run broken on your new Win, then I suggest you attempt to uninstall it, hopefully by using the Program Manager. -Pv- 2 carrot salad, 10.41 liter bucket, electric doorbell, 17 inch fan, 12X14, 85 Dbm
loki
What specific file is causing the 7-Zip error? Some older installers don't work on 64 bit Windows systems.
pvarn
On win7 or 8 you don't need winzip or 7zip. You only need 7zip if you intend to open some of the more unusual formats like RAR or CAB. -Pv- 2 carrot salad, 10.41 liter bucket, electric doorbell, 17 inch fan, 12X14, 85 Dbm

The OP said it was an add-on using a self-installer that caused the problem. Without more detail, we can't effectively provide an answer, hence my question about what specific file is causing the issue.
il88pp
If you have a 64bit windows, make sure you use the 64bit version of 7zip. Using the 32bit version on 64bit win does not work correctly. Not sure if it will fix your issue also. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
pvarn
1950: It sould help us to know what file you downloaded from the library here is giving you this specific trouble. Rgr Loki. I was trying to address only one of his three problems: "when I try to install a downloaded plane (all my planes come from here) the dialogue box says "Unable to open file............." and list every file having to do with that plane." Problem1: "when I go to pick an airplane I find that many are not shown at all i.e. the Maule. It's in the program but not available to choose." A: Perhaps your version of FS does not support that plane and it's only available for the AI to fly not you so you see the files in the airplane folder but not the UI aircraft list. It's an AI only plane. Problem2: "dialogue box says "Unable to open file............." and list every file" This READS to me as if this archive he downloaded is a self-installing archive which relies on 7zip to extract the files and copy them to the correct location. Add to that: "Failed..7-zip not implemented." READS to me as if his zip file type is set to open with 7-zip but 7-zip is not installed properly. I suggest installing the files manually instead of using the auto install option. Hopefully there are manual install instructions within the archive. I'm not seeing that a full featured installer exe is being used. There is a possibility he's trying to extract an archive containing an installer exe "Install.exe" or some such but again, the list of failed files does not seem to pinpoint that an install exe is being used. We'll know more when we know the file in question. -Pv- 2 carrot salad, 10.41 liter bucket, electric doorbell, 17 inch fan, 12X14, 85 Dbm

jorgen.s.andersen
I had an issue just a couple of days ago with Windows 8.1 and 7-zip, and the Vieques photoscenery recently posted here for download. I had version 9.20 32-bit of the 7-zip minstalled and could not get it to extract the files correctly. I ended up getting the 7-zip version 9.38 64-bit, then I could make it work.
