BryanButler
Hi, guys. This may seem like an awkward question, but I'm graduating high school this summer and I'm thinking of taking a short course of something I've always been interested in, which is flight simulation and computer gaming in general. So, my question is: if I want to become a future developer like what the guys at FlyTampa, Flightbeam, PMDG, CS, QW, FSDT do, what would be the name of that particular field of study? okdaley
That's actually an interesting question - but may I recommend that you acquaint yourself with the following tools: Sketchup, 3DSMax, Maya, Blender, Sculptris, and perhaps other cad and 3D modeling software apps. Not sure college is needed in order to master these tools, so your higher education can be instead in learning about things that are really cool, like perhaps the classics, history, the sciences, math matics, and computer science, etc -

I'll look into all the stuff you listed there. Truly appreciate your help :D
yensid
Something else I’d recommend: check the websites of the different FS shops and see if they are hiring. If they are, see what skills they are looking for (I.e programming languages, tools like the ones mentioned above, etc.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz / Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler / G.Skill Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory / EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card / Corsair Professional 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply / Azza Hurrican 2000R ATX Full Tower Case

loki
Check out the FSDeveloper forums as many FS developers hang out there. They would probably be willing to answer your questions about the skills needed. https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/
il88pp
A year after getting fsx I installed the fsx-sdk. (sdk=software development kit). That came with the modeling program Gmax. And a simple guide to building an aircraft. (it was a P38). I tried that, bit off more then I could chew, and failed. But it taught me a lot about models and how much is involved to make them. Here's two threads I found of others that tried. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/75157-gmax-manualtutorial/ https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/fsx-airplane-modeling-help.10897/ Since then a new modeling program has appeared. BLENDER. Freeware. There are various other (non-freeware) programs as well. (the fsx-sdk is still required also.) my impression is Gmax is not used as much anymore. It's easyer to start with, few options. But also limited in what you can do. But trying to follow the P38 guide could still give you a nice impression of modeling. For Blender there are some good guides too now. I don't know if there's one for a whole aircraft. There are several explaining how to model a house. Google: Fsx-sdk build your own gmax model easy guide should find you loads of threads. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
