FSX created IFR flight plan ignored during flight

I create a flight plan in FSX (or anything else such as G-plan).

Around half way during the flight FSX ATC always give me a heading that departs from the flight plan. Sometimes significantly, and sometimes making a longer journey to the destination.

Does this happen in the real world ? (if so why not just create a flight plan 'direct to' and let FSX ATC take over during the flight) ?

Also, in FSX, when ATC requests a heading away from the created flight plan do you obey and then ignore the original flight plan or keep it in case ATC request "resume own navigation", which has never happened to me yet.

Regards to all....

I usually ignore anything stupid from ATC. I make the turn in the direction I should go and then re-establish my IFR flight plan with ATC. That usually makes them come to their senses.

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Because I have heard similar comments like those of Mr Zippy before ...I do not use default ATC and in over 20 years I have no problems whatsoever flying from one point to another and I have finally learned the go-around procedures after years...so I am once again a happy simmer...I am now flying from Miami to Milwaukee with my American PMDG 777 at 40000 feet and it is loads of fun...

Are you getting vectors prior to approaching the airport? About 80 or so miles away they will vector you to intercept the runway. When they tell you to contact tower, this is the time to turn on the APP button for the ILS. Providing there is one. I use a couple WAAS gauges for no ILS low visibility approaches.

If you don't intercept and engage the NAV/GPS on the flight plan direct to line, ATC will have you intercept it. Watch your GPS.

A standard fsx flightplan gets you to your destination airport but does not vector you onto the active runway heading for the ils assuming there is one. ATC are doing that by taking you off the gps route towards the end of your flight.
